How do you change to Legendary Difficulty?

Had the same problem. Clicking the > next to Master did nothing.

Looked it up and found this thread.

bigmandog80 is actually correct in that it is SkyUI. When I disabled it and went back into the game, I was able to switch to Legendary without problems ---

HOWEVER, I discovered that the reason why other people using SkyUI aren't having this problem is because they've updated their SkyUI to version 3.4, which just came out a few days ago. It fixes this issue. I had no idea it was even released. A lot of people probably still don't have it, and sadly Nexus Mod Manager's automatic update function for mods doesn't actually update 90% of the mods I use. Don't depend on it -- just get your updates manually and you'll be all set.

I can confirm on my end that it was indeed SkyUI that disabled Legendary difficullty.

I quit Skyrim, disabled SkyUI, and restarted Skyrim, and sure enough, Legendary was accessible. I set my difficulty to legendary, saved the game, quit Skyrim, and re-enabled SkyUI, logged back in, and guess what? It was reset back into Master difficulty.

EDIT: SkyUI 3.4 fixes it. Didn't read the previous post. ;-)

I have the exact same thing; I changed my difficulty from Adept to Expert, and now it won't go back to adept, it just keeps going towards legendary like I'm spamming the --> key
