[WIP] The Third Reich, 2025

‘The Third Reich, 2025’ is an upcoming modification for the game Fallout 3. The modification is a semi-historic but also largely fictional storyline, featuring the Nazi Government and the ‘German Reich’. A brief backstory to the modification can be found further below, that explains exactly how history has been taken into account and exactly how it has been changed (quite a bit) to reach the purposes of this modification.

The modification is set in the German Reich city of New Berlin. The ex-Reich Capital of Berlin was completely destroyed after a nuclear war broke out between Russia and the German Reich. It is in this city of ‘New Berlin’ that the modification actually takes place. The player takes on the role of a British Spy, sent by the British Government to perform missions of sabotage, information gathering and attempts on high ranking Nazi officials lives.

Before I continue, I want to make a few points completely clear. This modification is in no way ‘anti-Nazi’ or ‘pro-Nazi’. I do not condone the actions of the Nazi Party during their reign, however neither will I restrict my creative aims due to these actions. As a matter of respect, I have chosen not to include any references to the persecution of Jews, Homosexuals, Gypsies or any other group within Nazi Germany - however, other areas of Nazi ideology will be present within the modification, for example the idea of an ‘Aryan Master-Race’.

So, how exactly is history taken into account, and how is it changed to actually set up the founding aspects of the modification?

• 1st September 1939 - Germany launches it’s invasion on Poland, with great success. Poland fails to defend itself as well as it could have, and large amounts of Polish land are lost within the first day. [True]
  
• 3rd September 1939 - Britain, the Commonwealth Nations and France all declare war on Germany - little troops are sent into Poland or Europe, except a small French force. [True]
  
• 17th September 1939 - Russia join the invasion of Poland - Poland is split between German and Soviet rule. [True - anything below here is mod content, and not history.]
  
• 1940 - British troops begin to deploy inside France, assisting with the defence of the country against the German Invasion.
  
• 1942 - Germany has successfully conquered parts of Eastern France and Poland, Belgium, Southern Norway, Denmark, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg.
  
• 1944 - British and French troops are pushed back against the coast, with all but a very small coastal area of France conquered. The Soviet Union has withdrawn from Poland, and Germany has taken complete control.
  
• 1945 - Germany successfully conquer all of France - the French government and troops retreat to Britain, alongside all British troops. Britain now contains the French Government in exile, the Polish government in exile and the Belgian Government in exile. The Soviet Union withdraws from the war, declaring a ceasefire with Germany and the other axis-states due to the threat of a democratic revolution within the country.
  
• January - March 1947 - Nazi Germany prepares for an invasion of Great Britain. In preparation for the invasion, Britain recalls all soldiers from abroad and calls upon soldiers from the British Commonwealth. Germany sends continuous threats towards Britain and it’s allies, demanding it surrender itself to Germany.
  
• May 1947 - Facing an imminent invasion from a German force at least three times the size of it’s own military (due to Germany’s introduced force conscription in it’s conquered land) - Britain and Germany declare a cease to the war, and Britain is forced to pay reparations for its crimes against Germany.
  
• June 1947 - Germany renames itself and all it’s conquered lands to the German Reich and begins to return to a normal way of life. War is at an end for now, and the newly founded Reich begins to flourish. Whilst some states are still hesitant to trade and to assist the Reich due to its past, many see the new economic power within Europe as a chance for them to also flourish. Europe grows richer, and more powerful.
  
• 1967 - The Reich Fuhrer, and Nazi Party Leader - Adolf Hitler - is assassinated by an underground resistance movement. The new Fuhrer bans actively seeks to destroy any form of resistance towards the Reich - and enforces the punishment of death for anyone who does not support himself, the Reich or the Nazi Party. After Hitler’s death, over three hundred people were killed within a two night massacre on suspicion of being involved with the assassination.
  
• 1947 - 2000 - Peace continues throughout Europe, the German Reich successfully tames its population, and puts down any form of resistance. The people of the Reich face extreme restrictions within their everyday life, and are not provided with any political freedoms - anyone heard to speak against the Nazi Party or its head - the Fuhrer - face death. Underground organisations still seek to debunk the Reich and return Europe back to it’s original state, and Britain and the European Governments in exile work with these organisations.
  
• March 2000 - Tension begins to grow between the Soviet Union and the German Reich as a result of a border dispute regarding where the Polish Border sits.
  
• July 2000 - A Reich soldier is seriously injured after Soviet Troops opened fire after he entered Soviet Territory.
  
• September 2000 - The Reich reacts by launching an invasion into Soviet land.
  
• September 2000 - March 2001 - The war continues.
  
• Late March 2001 - The Soviet Union employs nuclear warheads and strikes major Reich military locations and Berlin - no High Ranking Nazi Officials were in Berlin at the time, however the city was obliterated.
  
• Early April 2001 - The Soviet Union and The German Reich come to a peace agreement, and all hostilities cease. The Reich is now without a capital, and must seek to build a new one. Berlin’s location is not possible due to radioactivity in the area, and they therefore decide to construct it on the ruins of another town that was destroyed during the Second World War. Up until June 2025, Germany begins to recover slowly from the nuclear devastation and begins constructing it's new capital fully (although, it is still more of a 'shanty' and scrap town, than a true capital city.
  
• June 2025 - The point where the player arrives in New Berlin as a British diplomat - he will arrive at the nearby airport, and will be taken to New Berlin.
  

So - none of the actual events leading up to the modification are particularly that historically factual, however - the way that the Nazi Government will control the population and the way that they treat them is based on the way the Nazis actually did treat the German Population.

The Nazi Party were very effective with essentially ‘brainwashing’ the population of Germany. They controlled just about everything within the country, including all media and political views. If you didn’t agree with the Nazi Party, then you would not be permitted to live in public and you’d be arrested. Within the modification will will witness all of the following:

• The Nazi Control of the Media - only good things about the Nazi Party, it’s successes and it’s greatness are printed or broadcasted. All newspapers, television stations and radio stations are state-ran.
  
• Nazi Propaganda - over the radio you will hear Nazi propaganda being blasted, you will witness streets with Nazi Party banned and you will see posters adorning the walls praising the Fuhrer for his greatness, and calling the Soviet’s ‘animals’.
  
• False Education - Within the schools of New Berlin, textbooks will have been altered to describe Germany as the true and rightful rulers of the world, and how they were stabbed in the back by their allies during the First World War resulting in their demise. Children will be taught Nazi ideology, and forced to believe and support it.
  
• Militarisation - from a very young age, young men are trained in military arts and tactics in preparation for their compulsory military future. The streets of New Berlin are flooded with the Reich Military who acts as the police force. It is impossible to travel without being noted by them.
  

Once I actually begin to get the full development of this modification going, I intend on recording a few ‘developer diaries’ to show actually what I’m aiming for with it. These will feature myself designing areas within New Berlin, and perhaps even developing the storylines.

With release, there will be optional patches that will allow you to disable certain aspects of the modification, if you deem them to be pushing on a rather thin morale line - e.g. Nazi Propaganda, or something alike to that, however I have the full intention of developing this in a tasteful manner, so that such things are not required to be downloaded and applied.

Personally, I am extremely excited to be developing this, and I would also hope that you will be looking forward to playing it upon release - which is still very far off! I shall regularly update this thread with new content and to showcase the new areas of New Berlin, and I will also post such updates on my blog for easy reading, so be sure to subscribe to this thread if you are interested in following the development of this modification.

Note: Due to what some might deem the ‘sensitive nature’ of this project, I did seek permission before developing it as I intend on uploading it to the Nexus as the main download point - and I received a response confirming that as long as it’s designed in a tasteful manner, then it’s quite fine - which is exactly how it will be.
