Khet
Well, with AS-R advancing to the point where I won't be spending as much time on it as I can, and EE taking longer than I thought (too many interiors in the game!) I'm wondering how you folks think of your ideas for mods since I really can't think of anything else now. So, I suppose I'm asking for some decent ideas I might be able to run with, heh. skojolt
after messing with the GECK I'm writing off pretty much all of ideas that I had before. That and the inability to use most modelling apps to create content (my specialty). GECK has probably crashed on me over 200 times just making a simple mod to rectify some of the shortcomings of the game. I guess my current ideas are the things I know I can do without either crashing (although some crashes are totally random) or editing hundreds of entries to accomplish something that would be simple in a less chaotic database system. I can't imagine how much money and time bethesda flushed down the toilet using this editor on fo3. It feels like one of those development apps that just kept getting added to with no design over years and years leaving a minefield of bugs and UI absurdities for it's users. fo1/fo2 is a good model for making changes, and there are plenty of rpgs in days past that had great gameplay and plot. You should make a chronotrigger type quest line :)
Pyro Paul
for me, the ideas are easy, it is the making them that becomes difficult. so i just tinker around with minor mods. most of the time my ideas come from a 'wouldn't it be cool' stage which just evolves and evolves. for instance.wouldn't it be cool to have a NBC military suit? (nuclear biological chemical warfare) basically have combat armor with a gasmask and have none of your skin exosed... since i can't import meshes (because the gods hate me i guess) that idea gets shot, so then i go to the next stage. what is the next best thing to an NBC suit? a HAZMAT suit! so i'll just take that and reskin it... you know what would be really cool, if this was like a type of pre war clean up crew... like the government orginized group designed to clean up the hazardious radioactive material after a nuclear war. Armed with flame throwers they would have gone around clensing the radioactive soil, burning the mutated freaks, and purging the world anew... Well, now i need a snazzy name... hum... pyro.... PYRO... Protect. Yeild. Reclaim. Order... P.Y.R.O orginally a hazardious waste desposial unit of FEMA, at the start of the Resource war they where trained as a type of ParaMilitary group. their name is their duty. Protect the Innocent, Yeild results, Reclaim lost land, and create Order. However, after the bombs dropped most of the responce teams of PYRO where killed. those that did not die in the attacks succumbed to the violent looters, crazed gun men, and exposure to the intense radio active elements. the years pass and like many parts of the old world, they are forgotten. Untill a wasteland wandering party finds a PYRO control center...to them, this was a bright beacon of hope and it became a Religion to them more than just a job. With flamer in hand and fuel in tow they intend to Clense the wasteland of all that they deam chaotic and tainted. Clense the Waste! Purge the unclean! Burn the Unbelievers!! huh, what a great idea... pretty good considering i made most of that off the top of my head as i was typing..

dexxtaa
Usually I just see stuff I want to put in the game, then I go and find a way of putting it in there. Either that or if I cant, I make it myself and put THAT in lol thats pretty much it. what i DO want to see is a melee targetting mod.
Rekicker
I try to find something that looks impossible and then set my goal for it. Usually, however, I have to keep making compromises until the mod that finally comes out is ground-breaking instead of full-on world-shattering. /bigheadexplodes Actually, I'm an entertainment buff so I look for ways to entertain players. That's why I worked so hard on my radio mods and now I'm working on a theater mod. It's a pain in the ass, sure, but I derive some kind of sick satisfaction from the idea that people enjoy their games more with my crap installed. So that's the only piece of advice I can give other modders: first recognize what reaction you are trying to accomplish on a broad scale (entertain, interest, scare, comfort, distract, humor, impress, disgust, etc) and then you can work on the pathway that leads to that goal. For instance, if I wanted to scare people, I'd make a creepy mansion full of puzzles and death (ala Resident Evil) but if I wanted to comfort you I'd create bodypillows with anime chicks on them for you to snuggle with in-game. Or maybe that would be to disgust you...
Baelkin
Though I'm still pretty new to modding and modding Fallout 3 in general, I look at it like any creative process. I also draw a lot in my spare time and make miniature models (sometimes of my drawings! Awesome!) and usually it all starts out with me thinking "Hey, wouldn't it be cool if..." and then I go about making it. For instance, I sometimes play a bit of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay and since there aren't any specific miniatures for that game I set about making my own, one for each player profession. It's the same with modding really - my pet Cerberus project just started out reading a thread on this board and I fell so much in love with the armour that I've set out to remake it for Fallout 3, with as high degree of precision as I can. If you still can't think of mods you want to make with this approach, you can always look around and see if there are already existing project to which you can contribute. These boards are full of people working on larger mods which require several people to complete, and I figure most of the crews would be happy to have another competent member on the team. If all fails, take a small hiatus from the game and modding, do something completely different and then come back with a fresh set of eyes and ideas. ;)
Pyro Paul
The Sisters of Battle called, they want their motto back... I'm not saying it's a bad idea but it's pretty obvious where the idea came from... funny thing, the idea is not inspired by WH40k. it was more inspired by watching that movie '28 weeks later' a few days back...a good ways through the movie, the military starts coating the place in poison gas, then squads start walking around in full NBC gear with flame throwers killing the infected... if it was inspired by WH40k then i would have suggested something where you make 'Blood' and 'Skulls' a lootable item and make a place where you can sacrifice these objects to obtain perminent perks to yourself. add a new Axe that acts like the 'ripper' weapon, and scream 'More Blood for the Blood God!!' all the while. but that is because i'm a Khorne World Eater player, i know next to nothing about the SoB really.
