Anchorage Base [Spoilers]

I was thinking about doing this myself, but I've only just downloaded the GECK and haven't modded at all since Morrowind. I'll still probably give it a go.

Anyway, here we go. Sorry if I ramble a bit.

Big Town is a failed community, even if you help them they'll still go under eventually, just ask Dusty!

However, Anchorage Memorial Facility is a good set up that's just going to waste. The mod relocates the population of Big Town to Anchorage Memorial.

The mod I envisage is a multi-phase mod:

Initial requirements are the completion of two quests;

- After Wasteland Survival Guide 'Observer in the Mirelurk Nest' the PC becomes aware of the suitability of Anchorage Memorial as a base.

- After 'Big Trouble in Big Town' the PC saves Red and Shorty from Germantown Police HQ

The PC should be made aware the situation is not supportable. I thought that on the dead muties at the end of the quest might be an note; being an offer of the placement of a slaver camp at Big Town to service the muties (perhaps as part of a deal to get back a certain Behemoth) with fresh young captives straight out of Lamplight. This means the slavers don't have to 'mature' the young slaves, Lamplight does that, and they deliver themselves!

Red asks the PC to help relocate the Big Town population somewhere safer, but to use existing dialogue I'd have the PC suggest it, allowing Red to utilise an existing 'yes/no' option. If the PC has not completed Wasteland Survival Guide, they could have the dialogue option 'I don't know of anywhere yet, maybe I'll ask around Megaton.'

Otherwise it's a simple kill-and-clean. For a bit of fun, there could be a requirement that the PC uses a flamer on the Mirelurk Eggs (a'la Aliens) and must kill the Mirelurk King, I dunno how you'd script that.

Then it's an 'escort the kids to the Anchorage Memorial', but I suppose you'd have to allow for fast travel (although a slaver ambush would be fun. Perhaps as you leave Big Town with everyone?)

Finally, a scavenger hunt. The guns the kids have are useless, so the PC must go and get some better ironware. I'd suggest 'ten assault rifles, ten hunting rifles, ten combat shotguns, ten Chinese pistols'. Maybe even some repair/activation scripting could place Mk III trurrets in the building at the modder's whim would be cool, I think Flash would have to find the turrets somewhere in the facility and ask for help installing them or acquiring components. The Pc should at least have some part of getting the lighting back on :)

As the PC delivers weapons, the kids clean the Anchorage Memorial up and get it habitable again.

Then the PC can place the Big Town people as merchants, most of whom are obvious choices for various roles. I really think it'd be funny if Bittercup was a hairdresser that only supplied Emo/Goth cuts myself :)

The PC gets a pad in Anchorage Memorial (hopefully close to a door rather than force them to wander around, and the game gets another settlement.

Stinky would be a problem, because he may end up needing to go to two places, depending on the timing of the quests. Also, how do you dialogue MacReady into accepting Anchorage Base over Big Town using existing dialogue? (It may be a Mungo trick!)

Future mods;

- Who organised the destruction of the original settlement? Perhaps they'd like to see the new one fail as well?

You simply inform him that Big Town has been relocated and unless he wants to send everyone out to die, including himself, in a couple years he'll sit down, shut up, and update the effing map.

Do you think that'd be worth making a dialogue for, or just referring to 'offscreen'?

You know what, I'm not all that skilled, but I think this would be a great project to start really learning the toolset with! I've had a look over things and it doesn't really look to be that complicated. I'm sure I can use the existing scripts for the escaped sleeves that head to the Lincoln memorial to get an idea of how to do that part. I think I'm going to take on this task. I even figured out how to add new dialogue with audio by cutting up the existing voice files and making new ones.
