Styxx42
I purchased ,installed and played Fallout 3. I don't proscibe to the Micorsoft live so I didn't create an account. Loved the game it but it locks on me so I went looking for another less buggy game on my system. 4 weeks later bought GTA IV installed it and played it Loved it. Played like a charm. The thing that bugged me is that I HAD to create a Microsoft live account to save my game on MY computer. I created an off line one and it bugs the crap out of me that i don't have an online LIVE account every time I load the game. It bugs the crap out of me. 1 week later I get the itch to play Fallout 3 again. Launch game and Voilo, there are no saves. Did some searching and found that my account on MicroCrap LIVE created a new directory under my MyGames\Fallout2\%username%.I took my saves from MyGames\Fallout2\dumped them to that folder and my saves showed up in game. WHY in the name of nine hells would Microsoft live have anything to do with my save games in Fallout 3? Really why would it change the settings of my existing game with no notification. I want everyone out there to know about this. If you installed the games in reverse order you would not have this problem I suspect. FYI Peeps. Good gaming
Circuitous
It was either make a directory for your account under saves, or tag each save with a username somehow. Directory's probably easier. Why? Really oughtta be asking Microsoft that one.

It just created a new directory then redirected where my saves would be from then on with in Fallout 3 and said screw the saves that exited. Saves already existed, i chose to not use Live with fallout 3. Bethesda had to okay MS to do this sort of modification of their software\reg settings. obviously they didn't test it or didn't care if saves where lost if installed in the order I stated. But I hope this post helps some people.
Monglor
I've just experienced exactly the same thing as happened to the OP, played FO3, got GTA4, went back to FO3 and now Games for Windows is breaking my balls about saved games and junk. I'd hoped to find a way of locking Games for Windows to GTA and leaving FO3 alone, but I think that's probably too ambitious and will just have to uninstall it. Even that isn't going to be easy apparently.
