How's it goin', all? Sorry if this has already been brought up (I'm sure it has) but what is the possibility of creating a multiplayer mod?

I know it was hard in Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines, but I know it has been done. I was hoping there would be a way to get a good RPing group online if such a mod were created.

But I get ahead of myself, are there any experienced modders out there that could give me an idea of how feasible it is?

look up the oblivion online projects, they have them in alpha stages. Fallout is almost the same engin so it is doable but insanely difficult. The game was not at all designed for it so implementing it is very difficult.

agreed. I couldn't even come close to knowing where to start on something like this. I'm sure someone will do it at some point, but usually to late. Seems most of the games that I've played that were SP only came out with MP mods about 3 years after the game came out.

But where did I ready a different company had a license for a Fallout massive multiplayer game? It also read that if they didn't complete it in a certain amount of time that Bethesda would acquire the license. I've never really played any of those games, just because I don't like paying a few to keep playing it..., but I would reconsider it for a Fallout version.

well, how long has OB been out?

and the OB online project has over 100 active members, and they'be been working since near the release.

oh and that STILL doesnt work to a anywhere near playable degree.

that gives you an idea of the timescale it'd take for a playable f3 online.

still, we can always dream

You would need a competent programmer with some basic networking knowledge. Then you need to have them write a server that broadcasts data from a 'master client' and integrates it into the client data for all connected players. It's neither impossible nor 'insanely difficult'. The challenge is finding someone willing to spend time on it rather than using their capability to generate an income.

The main reason bethesda didn't add coop is the immense data exchange the client server model requires for this engines, and well the fact that they didn't write the engine to begin with. Everything they used is licensed kits from other companies. There is an mmo that uses the engine but I suspect it's nothing bethesda licensed.
