teresatiger
Hi, probably a silly newb question, but I'm having trouble finding an explanation of what the faction settings for NPCs do. Like crime factions and so on. Does it just mean they ignore or interact with others based on that? Does it affect relationships? If there's any sort of list or breakdown explaining what each faction affiliation does, that would be really helpful. Like...what does "current follower" or hireling faction vs. a regional crime faction do?
thumbincubation
It's basically the NPCs club membership and spells out how they will treat other members, non members, their clubhouse, etc. There are some obvious ones, like "forsworn faction," in which case if you or an NPC are a member, the others will regard you as one of their own, you'll be able to use faction-owned beds, remain in faction-owned buildings, etc. Non members may be ignored, warned or outright attacked if they're in faction territory, depending on the factions involved. There are some less obvious ones like "Friend of" types, that don't necessarily add you to the main faction but designate you as not to be attacked, things like that. Here are some links from the creation kit tutorial series. The first is the intro page, that will help new users get set up and running with CK. It has a link at the top to return to the tutorial hub, which I have linked second and contains a list of common job-specific tutorials, and then finally the factions page, which was found using the search box at the top right. There are many more tutorials there than are listed on the hub. That one will explain the factions to you the most thoroughly, I think. Even if you're not planning on using Creation Kit, this can be a valuable resource in understanding how certain things are set up and why. Also there's the UESP, which is (in my book) the best internet source for all things Skyrim. Just google any key word and add UESP to the search. That's where I go for console commands, NPC ref IDs, quest walk throughs, bug workarounds, you name it. https://www.creationkit.com/index.php?title=Category:Getting_Started https://www.creationkit.com/index.php?title=Bethesda_Tutorial_Creating_an_Actor https://www.creationkit.com/index.php?title=Faction
