Problem While Trying To Patch

Uhm,hello people.I'm new to the whole mods and patches thing,atleast with Oblivion.

First problem:

I downloaded a mod recently just to try it out (Alternative Start Arrive by Ship).I've tried installing it by finding some tutorials on the net,did it with the Mod Manager.The thing is,when I use the Oblivion Launcher,and I set the Data Files,it's all alright,but when I start the game,I choose to 'Start A New Game' and a little window popps out asking me if I want to start a new game,I press 'Yes',but the little window just closes and nothing happens.I realized it's probably because I don't have the game patched...which leads us to another problem

Second problem:

I can't seem to patch my Oblivon.Atleast using the Official patch.It just says an old file is missing so it can't be replaced,something like that.

did you do a recent re-install of oblivion? If not try disabeling the mod and see if the problem goes away. also some mods need OBSE to work,not sure about that one!

Well,when I disable it it works perfectly,but I cannot install OBSE due to my second problem-I cannot patch...

Which patch did you try using? I had a similar problem with patching my game, so instead of downloading the English(US) patch I downloaded the UK patch, and it worked fine. I have no idea what caused that problem or why the UK patch worked and not the US one, but that seemed to solve my problem.

I've just tried with the UK patch,it got to about 4% overall,then this error showed up:

'Old File not found.However, a file of the same name was found.No update since file contents do not match.'

 

Should I try reinstalling Oblivion then starting again?
