Skyrim runs smoothly yet I continue to CTD

Alright. Like I stated in the topic title, Skyrim runs great in game for me. I get about 35-45 fps depending on what is going on and I am overall extremely pleased with my gaming experience while playing. However, I will get CTD's after a set amount of time has passed. Now I know when a specific mod, bad saved states, etc. cause CTD but this seems different. If I had to guess, I can play for ~1 1/2 hours (sometimes less, ~45min) before I CTD. And the CTD is completely random. Now I do run quite a bit of mods. I'd say I have around 80 mods including many texture mods, weapons/armor, custom races, follower mods, RLO, Sharpshooters and more. So I feel I am just simply running out of memory or have too many mods installed. But like I said, the game looks beautiful and I actually have been putting up with it CTD'ing every 1-2 hours or so because I just love how well the game looks. But I am afraid to add any new mods in fear of shortening the time it takes to receive that inevitable CTD. So does anyone know what the problem is? I will add, I feel I reached my mod limit before because at one point I could not add any more mods without immediate CTD. And I tested it to make sure it wasn't any particular mod causing the CTD. I've seen other people on here say they've experienced similar occurrences. I've disabled a handful of mods to "back off" of that mod limit. Which is strange because I've never downloaded more than 120 mods or so. And the max is apparently ~250? So I don't know what that means. But anyways, I would appreciate any help and feedback.

My specs:

GTX680

i7-3770K

8GB RAM

64bit OS

And I am running Skyrim on my 120GB SSD

Thank you

1) post your BOSS log (with the messages), include a list of plugins not recognized by BOSS if one is generated. Enclose both in spoiler tags so they don't clutter the screen.

2) have you made any edits to the game ini files?

3) any discerning patterns to the CTDs at all (mostly outdoors, in interior cells, during combat, with followers, etc.)?

As you can see, not all of them are active at the moment. (I've slowly been disabling more and more mods in an effort to fix CTD issues.)

There is no real pattern to my CTD. I do CTD outside the most though. But combat and entering and exiting buildings seem fine to me for the most part. But I do have two followers with me usually. I use that "all in one girl follower" pack which crams like 9 girl followers into one esp. But I only use like 1-2 of the girls yet I still need the esp for those two followers. Also I forgot to mention that I will occasionally freeze (not CTD) during a loading screen when I try to exit a building. (That might be a save issue or a mod problem.) I feel deactivating my mods like this might be causing even more problems. Heh.

This is my SkyrimPref.ini. I have made a few changes because I used that Nvidia Tweaked settings guide and changed a few things around. I also shut off the enb fps limiter, turned on vsync, and I used a CFF opener app to allow more than 2GB of ram to be used for the skyrim launcher (don't know if any of this makes a difference). I also have Wyre Bash installed but I do not understand how to use it so I always leave that "Bashed patch.esp" deactivated.

and I used a CFF opener app to allow more than 2GB of ram to be used for the skyrim launcher (don't know if any of this makes a difference)

It might, because this is not necessary any more since Skyrim was enabled to utilize 4GB ram several patches ago.

- did you make any changes to your skyrim.ini?

- what do you normally do with the plugins not recognized by BOSS?

Wrye Bash is primarily used to generate the Bashed Patch, which is basically a dynamically generated compatibility patch specific to the user's load order/mod list that, among other things, merges conflicting leveled lists records. Right click on the Bashed Patch in Wrye Bash and select 'rebuild...' to (re)generate the patch, and do it each time you add or remove a plugin.

No I don't think I made any changes to my skyrim.ini. And with unrecognized plugins I usually leave them be. They do not seem to be the problem. But I did what you said to the Bashed Patch thing and it seems to be a bit better. It's only been like an hour since I've seen this reply but I haven't CTD'd. I'll check more tomorrow and update you. Thanks

After you run BOSS, unrecognized plugins go to the bottom of the load order. I cannot emphasize enough that they absolutely should not be allowed to load there nor should their load order be positioned randomly. Plugins not recognized by BOSS may contain records that conflict with other plugins in your load order. Conflicts are common but depending on which and how many records are 'over-riden', it could be detrimental to the stability of the load order. The only reliable way to determine their load order position is to use TES5Edit to compare their records with the other plugins in your load order to see if there are conflicting records and then decide which plugin should 'win' the load order contest depending on the nature of the record (plugins that load later 'override' conflicting records of plugins that load earlier). That's what I recommend in your case since you don't have many plugins not recognized by BOSS and it shouldn't take too long to sort through them. You can also follow 'general guidelines' suggested by the mod authors if they included such suggestions in the mod readmes or descriptions, but it's not as reliable and 'fool proof' as checking out the plugin records yourself.

Ideally, I'd still like to see your skyrim.ini to make sure, since you mentioned you followed one of those online 'ini tweak guides.' Unless an user has a low end rig and need to tweak ini settings just sustain playable framerates (which does not appear to be the case for your rig), I generally recommend users leave the ini files alone except for non-performance related tweaks like enabling papyrus logging when bug tracking or increasing autosave count. Most of ini tweaks suggests by those 'tweak guides' floating around on the interwebs, especially the memory tweaks, are intended to boost performance at the expense of game stability (for example, increasing 'ugridstoload'), and are often the culprits for game instability not attributed to mods.
