I have moded extensively and I agree with Noobsause. You seem to be the only person saying the G.E.C.K. is crap. Are you suggesting how to fix things; no, are you asking how to do things; no, so the impression you are giving out is that of an attention seeking child. :dry: I suggest you calm down and drop it.

I think you misunderstand the purpose of my post. This isn't about 'taking sides' or 'getting support' or even 'making friends'. This is a rant, and as such will continue until my head of steam is exhausted.

If you find this objectionable, there is one very obvious solution for you; don't participate.

What would be childish is people taking this rant personally and getting defensive when they have no connection to the creation or development of the G.E.C.K. If you do have that connection, then you have grounds to take offense, and I don't apologize, cause this rant is for you.

you must be a moron to think that they made this game with the GECK. They didn't. the GECK is an aftermarket tool designed for us to have access to certain files. it's not how they made the game. and it's because of how it's made that it works like it does.

Personally myself and the entire rest of the community find it great that we have this. and we should be glad we have it at all since there was a chance we wouldn't get one. And ontop of that Bethesda is still one of the companies who actually cares about their PC audience and anything like this they give us is nice enough.

So seriously stop being a 5 year old, STFU and go back to playing halo or something because obviously you know nothing about how games are made

And for the record i'm going to school for game design so i'm pretty sure i know more than you.

@neok

they indeed used the GECK to create parts that game (obviously not everything)

the version we have is abit modified tho to make it more usable by mainstream users

@OP

unrealed or worldcraft give you just a tiny tiny bit of the possibilities we have with the GECk and i really doubt that you ever used any of these

the only plus i could see was the feature to build stuff out of bsg but that method was outdated just after the release of uengine2

i dont wanna say the geck is perfect but it clearly outshadows any other mod tools or sdk kits ive seen so far

but if complexity is what you fear... use paint...

and to state my opinion your whole post is as useful as a 3 days old dingleberry... your rant is not even valid in any way and thus bloody pointless... xcept we are supposed to believe that youre indeed simple minded and rather ranting about your inability to use the geck instead of the geck itself... i dunno

Actually, I had considered that maybe they had a superior in-house tool that they were keeping under proprietary wraps. But after looking at the way things have been designed, I can't think there's any way they could've done it but with the GECK.

UnrealEd and WorldCraft give you fewer data types, but a lot more power to build your own. It just requires knowing enough programming to make use of the environment. But you get more complete access to variables and almost complete access to engine functions, so it's quicker to develop with and the end result runs smoother.

The CS on the other hand, was designed on the Macintosh model, by prefiguring: "Why make that configurable, no one would want to do that!" Well, damn, if you can't imagine how someone would find a use for it, at least make your own job easier and leave it configurable, and I guarantee someone will be thrilled to have the feature accessible.

I have no problems using it, and I know I can make it do things that it wasn't intended for because that's the only explanation for why they'd make so difficult what could be so simple! And I only wonder, after I'm done with this, how's it going to run? Will it be worth it?

enk, the bottom line is you get what you pay for. Sometimes you get great poo for free and sometimes you don't. I can agree that I would have liked more freedom and functionality, but I don't demand nor expect anything when it comes to free tools. If a developer wants to release some tools, that's great. I'll look at it and if it is something I can use... I will. If I can't use it, oh well.

So make a damn good game, sell it, then release greatest SDK of all time - for free, and we'll all shut up.

I like the geck. Not like working on other stuff where I spend most of the time writing code... this thing is like legos. In 2 weeks with the GECK, I added more content to the game then I did in 2 months Quake 4 or HL2.
