Rigging a port

I am porting over a model from a game. The model is in the standard T pose. I am having a hard time putting the model in to the default invert Y pose all the standard fallout models come in. Does my model have to be around the bones. Or can I leave it in the T pose and weight model in that pose. Or does it need to be in inverted Y pose? Edited by ghostfc3s
