Help!

I've hit a bit of brick wall. I'm messing about texturing my rifle, but it's looking wrong in the game. It's very gloomy and blue. I want it to look much brighter. I think the problem is something to do with the amount of diffuse light, but I'm not sure how to fix it. In Nifskope it seems much more strongly affected by changing the diffuse light settings than other models. Is it in the .nif (don't think so) or is there something wrong with the normals? Or the normal map? (which is pretty simple right now).

Any suggestions keenly accepted

Thank you!

Here's the normal map - sorry for the file format - it's actually

There's no glow map - most of the weapons don't seem to have one (do I need one?)

My suspicion is with the normals. I'm importing the .obj into nifskope, copying it across to the achillesrifle.nif and then updating the normals

The attachment is .jpg. Most of the texture is mostly transparent (can't be done with .jpg)

Thanks!

normal maps shouldnt have any transparent parts on them...

put it in photoshop and use the NVIDIA texture tools on it, that should process it again and make things the right colors.

After that, again with NVIDIA Texture tools filter, set it to 'Normalize only' and hit ok. Then try it out.

For fallout 3 texures, the normal map should also (in its alpha channel) contain the Specular map, which should be a Grayscale version of your diffuse inwhich Shiney-bits are brighter, and areas that you dont want to shine should look darker. (Specularity)

Alternatively you could try only applying the diffuse map with nothing else, and see if its still blue, that way through the process of elimination you will be able to pinpoint atleast which texture map is your problematic one.

Models being tinted blue sounds like a Specular Color function, inwhich im guessing you have the normal map accidentally in your specular color map slot and its reflecting purple y blue light.

Yes - I know about the specular map in the alpha of the normal map. Haven't tried normalising for the normal map- I'll give that a go. These are screen shots from Nifskope. Regular.jpg shows the rifle rendered using the 'sunny day' preset - looks fine, as does the unmodified assault rifle clip. Blue.jpg shows it with the ambient light set all the way blue - this affect the rifle very much, but the clip much less. I think this is significant.

Also - I think the block display below shows I've got the textures in the right place.
