Help Request for Modder's Resource- texture issues

Gracious and amazing inhabitants of the wonderful world of the Nexus Forums: Please help a fellow modder in distress.

On Oblivion Nexus I downloaded a mod titled " Zinni_s 8 Book Stack Resource." It is exactly perfect for what I have in mind, but no matter what I've tried, the book jackets turn up purple. It could be packaged wrong, or I could be doing some thing stupid. I don't know because I'm still new to all of this.

Here is what I did: I extracted the NIF and DDS files into my textures and meshes folders. I opened the CS and right clicked in the object window to create a new static item. I created an ID and added one of the NIF files I put in the meshes folder. I clicked and dragged the item into my interior, but the book covers are all purple.

I would just give up on it and find something else, but it is the only thing I've found that could work for what I have in mind, and someone else left a comment saying that they look really nice in game, so I assume others have gotten it to work.

If anyone would be so heroic as to help me out and check into this, that would be awesome of them.

THANK YOU A BAGILLION TIMES!!!!!!!!!!

Well, I just took a look into it and, quite simply, the texture file is for a purple book.

The .nif contains only two objects, the books' covers and the books' pages (which uses a vanilla texture)

As it stands, the .nif is quite simply for a stack of duplicate books.

The make each book different, You'd need to modify the .nif so that each book cover is its own object and calls a different texture, or re-map the one so that each different book only uses a portion of the texture and modify the texture to have numerous covers.

Multiple textures would probably be the easiest way to make the stack look how you want as you could control each book individually. If you'd like I could probably do it in a couple of minutes.

If you could do anything with this mod to make it usable, that would be amazing. See, the reason I needed to use this particular mod is because I needed a set of identical and unmovable black or dark- gray books for a library I'm making. No other bookset mod had one like that. The pictures on this mod's page were exactly the sort of thing I was looking for. If that texture isn't present in those files, then the texture from "The Tome of Unlife" or "The Armorer's Challenge" would work fine. I just need them to stand still. It is for a very large library, so a texture of just the spines of the books would have worked even better, because I have no clue how much lag I'm gonna get. I have next to no knowledge on how to work with meshes and textures, so I don't even know if what I'm asking is possible in this particular case, but If you could or would get anything to work, again, THANK YOU!!!

Hmm....

What you're saying you want, is exactly what I get. Eight identical dark grey books, with a very slight purple tinge to them.

ZBookStack.dds & ZBookStack_n.dds in the textures directory (sloppy but that's where the .nifs are looking for them.) and the .nifs nestled somewhere in the meshes folders, and they should work fine.

The ZBookStack.dds is the texture for the covers in the screenshots, and it is included in the .zip, it's just that there's no directory tree in the .zip so you need to manually move the files to the right locations.

Edit,,,,

I just tried it with the textures in the wrong location. What I got was eight completely black books with vanilla page ends.

The only thing I can think of is if you overwrote ZBookStack.dds with ZBookstack_n.dds or changed the .nif to use ZBookStack_n.dds as the primary texture. Just how vivid of a purple are we talking here?

Oh wow....I got it to work!!! Yay!!!

I was sure I tried that combination like a thousand times. I guess I must have stuck it in a sub folder or something.

Oh, for the record, they had been bright neon purple, (I guess you might call it pink.) like what you see when there are textures missing.

If I ever get this thing released, I'm sure I could squeeze you into the credits if you wish. (:

THANK YOU AGAIN!!!!
