Armor Rating unaffected by magic

Hi all - I hope this is not a repeat post, but I can't find an old post about this.

My armour rating on the inventory page is only incremented by real, physical armour, not by spells or potions. If I, for example, add a ring with a shield spell, the armour rating will increment correctly. However, if I close the inventory and then re-open it, the armour rating is back to the old value. In fact, if I now _remove_ the ring, my armour rating will (temporarily) be negative!

As I am playing a mage character, you can imagine this is rather annoying. I only noticed it recently, and expect it is mod related. However, when starting a new game with the exact same mods, the problem does not occur.

I should also add that when using a lighting or fire shield, enemies do receive shock/fire damage correctly. I.e., the spells do work, it's just the armour rating is not incremented correctly.

Any ideas? cheers guys..

I could imagine that you installed some mods on an already advanced save game, right? You mentioned that starting a new game, that issue doesn't occur. I think that some of your mods might be compatible with a save game but are actually recommended for a new game.

Which mods do you use affecting your armor and that ring you mentioned?

Thanks for the reply.

In fact, nearly all the mods I have were in place when I started this character. However, I have re-built my Bashed Patch a few times. I believe that the problem started when I tried using the Unlimited Rings / Amulets function, and I was convinced that was the culprit.

But, I've already set that back how it was when I started (i.e. rings are unchanged), and I still have the problem. Also, that would not explain why spells are also affected.

I think I have some old saves from before I started fiddling, but it's several hours of gameplay behind. I'll check them out.

Try checking with Wrye Bash if any of your mod conflict with each other. Usually it occurs on big mod such as OOO, FCOM or MMM.

Maybe installing with Unofficial Oblivion Patch might work ;)
