Noob having issues installing basic mods for Skyrim SSE

I restarted my machine, and it's working properly now. No SKSE error, and SkyUI is opening quickly. I don't know what the issue was, maybe some permissions in windows. I would close this topic, but can't find a way to do so.

I figured I would take a dive into Skyrim Special Edition and do some mild modding, but I am immediately facing issues, so if anyone has time to answer a few very noob questions, I would appreciate it!

I am using Vortex and downloading mods from nexusmods.com, and I only have handful of mods atm (unofficial patch, alternate start, no bethesta intro, widescreen fix for SkyUI, SkyUI, SSE display tweaks, SKSE64).

My first issue is with SKSE; I was prompted to install it via Vortex, and did so via the Vortex mini-browser thing. Everything seemed to work fine, but when I enter the game, I get the error code 1 "SKSE is not working properly". Did I do something wrong during installation? Are there any additional steps that are needed? I was under the impression that Vortex would set this up automagically (I watched Gophers video on it).

Secondly, I am having an issue with SkyUI. It seems a bit slow to load up the inventory, around 2-3 seconds. I've used SkyUI in the past, and can't remember it being noticably slow, and my current PC is much faster in every way compared to my old one. And this is in a new game with little inventory if that matters. Also, when I hover over items in SkyUI, the key-indications (which button to press to eat, which to press for drop, etc.) are all referring to "???" instead of the actual key.

And lastly, I downloaded "SSE display tweaks" (https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/34705) which should allow me to set a custom frame rate cap and other options, but I cannot find where I actually set these values. There was no scripted installer, I can't see any options for the mod in Vortex, and ingame if I go to System -> $Mod configuration, all I see is a big logo "MCM Skyrim version 4 SE", which I have no idea what is, and no options but to return to system menu.

I've barely started modding, and everything is breaking already! Please halp.
