SnakeSlippers
This might sound weird but I'll try my best to explain. I was wondering if there was a way to ummm lets say strip down mods basically. Say for example there's a mod that I like and I downloaded it for using explosives to open containers instead of just lockpicking. But that mod also comes with a weapon and a new building. But I just want the explosive lockpick thing and no weapon or building. How do I do it? And can I put mods into the vanilla game like say I got a mod for a weapon, but I dont want esp or esm files and all that. Is there a way to add it to the files to make it seem like it came with the vanilla game? This modding stuff is way to unstable for me but when I play vanilla I have no problems at all. dangman4ever
For the first question, I do something similar all the time with weapons and outfits. FOMM has this nifty tool called "TESsnip" thats immensely useful for stripping out parts of mods you don't like or like. This post should give you an idea of what to do:http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/289082-porting-fallout-3-mods-to-new-vegas/?p=2661598 Same concept for stripping down mods: Open up the original .esp and your new .esp, copy over the parts you want from the original to the new, save, remove the original .esp, and voila! Takes a bit of trial and error but you'll get the hang of it. That's how I have one .esp file fille with only the guns I like and another two .esp files for just the outfits I like. For the second question, AFAIK, modded content needs to be part of a .esp or .esm file. So no, AFAIK, there's no way to do what you ask. Gribbleshnibit8
You're actually much better off using FNVEdit, which is much more accurate than the very old version of TESsnip included in FOMM. As far as merging into the game ESM files, that is a very bad thing to even think. Besides the fact it would take longer, you risk messing them up and invalidating other things, which could cause issues with other mods, or even make the game unplayable. You should never ever ever ever touch the game master files. There's a reason why GECK makes ESP files.
dangman4ever
More accurate in regards to simple weapons and outfits transfers or other things like quests, perks, etc? More accurate how? Not that I don't believe you. I'm just curious as to what FNVEdit does that makes it more suitable for just outfits and weapons. I can see FNVEdit being more accurate/useful for new in-game effects, quests, perks, and other major gameplay effects though. SnakeSlippers
Well thank you both for both TESsnip and FNVEdit I'll just look thru both see which one I like better I guess I'm just glad there's a program that does that. Is it hard to use? I've modded FNV almost a year ago and was making my own maps and mods n stuff but it's been awhile and I forgot how to do everything. So say I want to strip that dragonskin tactical outfit mod I think its called, cause it comes with different colors, different masks and outfits and stuff. I can just use that program to get just the black outfit and one mask and pair of goggles to put in my inventory of the bat? And I use to try and make only one esp files with all the mods in it. I would test it, test it, test it, make sure they all played along together, but the only thing was I couldnt delete the old mods and stuff or mine wouldnt work. Also dont know if I mentioned it or made it clear, for simple mods is there a program that lets you know how its made? Like a sprint mod? I know I can edit sprinting in GECK but I gave up cause it made everyone run and blah blah. But the mod was perfect. Or would I have to ask the author to see if they'll tell me? dangman4ever
IMO FNVEdit is a tad harder to use than TESSnip but far far more versatile. Yes you can strip a mod down to just the black tactical outfit. You can fkind of see how certain things are made in TESSnip and FNVEdit. But not everything: You still need GECK.
