brassdancer
I have been having this problem for at least 2 weeks now and I'm no closer to resolving it. Simply, my Skyrim is in a completely unplayable state where interior cells are missing most textures and meshes. NPCs are also affected, where most of them are just floating disembodied heads. Trying to enter any exterior worldspace results in an instant CTD, as does when the game attempts to load most item meshes in the UI. I even reinstalled Skyrim clean, as well as all the mods in my load order, after nuking the lot of them. Verifying the game cache doesn't affect anything. Alas, the problem remains. Modlist: https://modwat.ch/u/brassdancerSee here for an image of how catastrophic everything is. Screenshot taken in the DLC1DimhollowCrypt2 cell. This image is what I see when starting a new game. Obviously this is not the correct location for a new game to begin with Alternate Start - Live Another Life installed either. If I was to wildly guess, the vanilla textures and meshes .bsa files haven't downloaded correctly, yet the game runs absolutely fine if launched via Steam, so it must be a mod issue. So how on Nirn do I resolve this trainwreck?
anjenthedog
FWIW... One of the easiest ways to fix "global" mesh/texture isssues (presuming it is really missing or corrupt and not just overwritten, poorly or otherwise, by another mod), is to re-validate your files using Bethesda's tool, via Steam (must be "online" w/Steam, afaik). The only cost is the time (it's pretty quick) and afaik, If you're the type who cleans his/her masters, (I shamefully don't) you'll have to do that again, since the Bethesda validator will consider your previous SSEDIT edits to be "corrupt" files, and swap it/them for the base files (since it/they doesn't/don't match point for point with the source) So first off, if you're using anything that retextures walls homes, cities, etc, check them, but if they come up empty for solving your problem, you could try the re-validation. It's worked for me twice without any real issues (aside from what I already said). good luck! Hmm... fwiw x2: that example image is bizarre and leaves me at a loss why I wrote that above. I don't have a clue how to get to that state of chaos.
brassdancer
It isn't the vanilla .bsa files causing the issue, that much I certainly am certain on. The issue still remains after solidifying the files via Steam. Secondly, the game runs without issue if launched through Steam, reinforcing that this is certainly a mod issue. EDIT: I actually solved my issue! The solution was the most unlikely of things I could have thought of. All I needed to do was create a new profile in MO2, reorder everything as before, and now the game is running as it should be.
