Oblivion in 2013

Hello All, I am returning to Oblivion after a short (year or so) break. Is anyone available to link some of their favorite mods over the past year or so or any mods to look out for? Also what is the state of Oblivion now that Skyrim has been out for a while now.

I never got in to Skyrim and personally find Oblivion's gameplay to fit the nastalgia of games I grew up playing more, so I am coming back.

The first thing I want to do is install the latest version of FCOM 1.0.

Also I plan on playing an archer

Thanks!

FCOM, huh? It is the most known, but be sure it's the overhaul you are looking for. There are about a dozen overhauls. If you jump straight to FCOM you may miss the boat on Fran's, Warcry, TIE, Cyrodiil Upgrade Overhaul, Meogron Knights, Revised Oblivion Mod, Oblivion Reloaded, Warcry New Dimensions, Brasher's Oblivion Overhaul, Maskar's Oblivion Overhaul, and Oblivion Intensity.

But for an FCOM install:

Also get Streamline for its Streampurge and Streamsmooth function. Likely, Oblivion Stutter Remover. FCOM is now easier to install, but still needs reading. You need to know how to BOSS, use bashed patch in Wrye Bash, how to clean dirty edited mods with tes4edit, use Oblivion Mod Manager or Wrye Bash for archive invalidation, how to configure Oblivion Stutter Remover's .ini file and Streamline's .ini file, and the LAA patch.

Have a look at the first post on this page:

Since you want to be an archer, just know that Oblivion's archery is piss weak until high skill level. Look up Duke Patrick's Archery on Nexus to turn you and all archers in the game, good and bad, into deadly archer badasses.

I just came back to Oblivion about a month ago, PC of course. I've seen Skyrim on the consoles, but it didn't draw me in like the familiar world I've spent so much time in with Oblivion. As for mods i'd suggest, I'm not sure I'd be much help. I don't use overhauls, mainly just mods to make faces and bodies less ugly, a lesser known mod to make vampirism more Stoker lore accurate, and some other minor realism tweaks like a guard overhaul. I have some favorite quest mods, but most of them have been around forever.
