Hi folks, first of all - im new here and i would like to thank everyone who spends his time by doing such great mods ... I am realy trying to get involved in modeling and texturing etc. so yesterday i tried blender.

i watched those tutorial @ youtube and i did pretty well until i tried to do a mesh and texture it. I have to say, im trying to do my own armor and dresses for FO3...

Because im using curious labs poser over years i thougt, maybe ist possible to create the same things in poser. (hope you guys know poser ?!)

My question is: do i have to use .nif files to get my models working in FO3 or is it possible with wavefront object (.obj) or 3D studio files? (.3ds)

(sry 4 my english - im from switzerland)

FO3 uses .nif files.

You cna take .obj and .3ds files and convert them into .nif files with Blender using the Blender Niftools.

After that, you need to do all the nifskope work to make the model work in-engine.

Unfortunately, as far as apparel that isn't helmets, you are going to need to rig and skin your models to the FO3 skeleton, weight painting and all. This is something I cannot help you with however.

The tools were developed enough in Oblivion that it wasn't too difficult to find the tutorials and examples to make it work. But because all the tools are still being created and refined as we speak, I haven't even considered delving back into armor. I'll be waiting until the tools become a little more stable and streamlined and some FO3 specific tutorials start surfacing.

You cant create anything in poser, only change existing things or modify them based on morph targets and their bones.

To create 3d models youll need 3d package such as... 3dstudio Max, Maya, Blender, Gmax, Modo, Softimage XSI, Houdini, Lightwave

  • 1 month later...

here are 2 tutorials on getting armor into FO3

one by malos (boobies warning)

http://fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=963

and one by sickleyield (thong warning?)

http://sickleyield.googlepages.com/makingc...malebodyforfall

but since FO3 modding is still at a reasonably young age, and the niftools people are constantly working to update the nifscripts, parts of the tutorials get outdated quickly. but doesnt make the tutorials any less valuble, there are probably just slightly more efficient ways of doing things at this point

edit: also dont bother texturing your mesh in blender (if thats what you meant you were doing) because in the end youll have to make a .dds texture in something like gimp/photoshop and attach that in nifskope. but check around the internet for some tips on UV unwrapping

My tutorial has been updated recently for newer NIF scripts. ;)

It's possible to do the body partitions in Blender now instead of Nifty, but I've gotten a lot fewer errors and time lost using the Nifty method.
