Mod problems

Alright, so I got my Oblivion modded rather well, with a fairly extensive list (to follow) with virtually nil conflicts. However, there are three which are bugging me a bit.

 

For one, a small portion of items that I find in the game world have foreign words placed in them, some it's simply 'of' and 'the' (Longsword de Lightning V, X de Suffering for poison? of suffering), some it looks straight out of babelfish (Ayleiden-Fackel for , I assume, Ayleid Torch). As far as i know I downloaded the English version of all my mods (are there even multilingual versions of these?) but i'm not sure how to check it. For the most part, this is entirely a cosmetic thing, and in no way really affects my gameplay.

 

Next one is a bit stranger. All merchants in the game appear to have what I would expect to be 'normal' amounts of gold, however after selling or buying an item or two to them, they suddenly bounce up to 65535 gold (minus whatever the cost was for the item I just sold to them), and while it is a bit nice for selling off those absurdly expensive items I don't need, it does detract from the game 'realism' a bit. Sometimes the gold actually flips every sale I make, so I might have a vendor with 1000 gold, I sell something for 200, he now has 65335, I sell something else for 100, he now has 700 gold. It updates on items as well, e.g. he has 700, I sell something for 100, he now has 65235, and I can sell something for 7000 gold, and get full value from it. As a note, every time I exit the vendor, whether he has 500 gold left or 65000 gold left, when I re-barter, he has what would be considered his 'correct' gold amount.

 

Finally, this one's a bit more annoying. Periodically I check my bounty, just to ensure none of my thieving has been witnessed, and it's usually parked at a big fat 0. However, on more than one occasion, I've walked up to talk to a guard, to suddenly have him proclaim that I am under arrest. I'll reload my most recent save, check my bounty, it's at 0... I approach the guard, then check it, and suddenly I have a bounty of 5. Walk a fair distance away from the guard, or leave the town I'm in, and suddenly it goes back to 0 again. Only way I can clear it without hitting up the console, is to go to a town with a doyen, go near a guard and ensure I have my 'false bounty', then go to the doyen and pay my meager amount of gold. Sometimes it goes all random on me as well, like I'll talk to the guard, be perfectly fine, then go talk to another one 20 yards from him, and get arrested. More of a nuisance than anything, but still peculiar.

Many mods have both English and other language versions. What you describe is exactly what happens if you install the second language - possibly French? version of a mod. Normally you can tell if you bother to check the readme for a mod. If the readme is in German, It's a good bet the mod will be a German version. :thumbsup:

 

It will be very difficult to tell just from a load list which one though. And it may be even more difficult to change it, unless the language part is inside the .esp file. If it is buried inside a subfolder, you are going to have to dig down and delete that particular subfolder, then reinstall the English version (if there is one) Or, just learn French. :biggrin: Try digging through the subfolders in the data folder to see if one of them seems to have a lot of French (or what ever language you are seeing) in it.

 

Problem 2, it will have to be a mod that affects how a merchant gold is calculated. My guess is that 2 mods are fighting over the merchant gold. Look for one that increases the amount of gold a merchant has to bargain with. And another one that reduces a merchant's gold when he buys something from you.

 

#3, best guess, Rens guard overhaul is conflicting with another mod. Possibly the same one as #2 as they both seem to change a value. Look for a mod that affects bounty in some way.
