Need help with oblivion mod installation order.

Hello everyone! I just recently made this account to ask specific questions about oblivion mods, since i'm new to this whole modding scheme.

I had first started with installing rather small mods such as Arthur Natural Environments, Nebulas, and BTmod. However, I now intend to jump into much bigger mods such as the monstrous FCOM (Monstrous in a good way ;) ).

Since I'm quite the noob to this whole modding thing, I decided to start fresh - a clean Oblivion, free of any mods so that when I first install FCOM I may not have any annoying conflicts. Queston is, I don't know if I should install official plug-ins first, or unofficial patches first, or Qarl's Texture Pack 3 first, or all before FCOM. I would love to know what would be the most correct and efficient installation order - which of the most popular mods first, and which last. Your advice may not ave to be specific, it could be a list of the type of mods like "plug-ins first, then unofficial patces, then big 1+ GB 'Overhaul' mods, then smaller mods." Any help will be greatly appreciated :)

BTW, I am also trying to make use of a brilliant little utility tool called "BOSS," formerly known as FCOMhelper. The procedure is as follows (quote from the Readme file): extract content to Oblivion/Data and run the .bat file, not .exe. The first time I did this I got an error saying something similar to "BOSSlog.txt could not be found." So I made my own .txt file and named it "BOSSlog" and moved it to the Oblivion/Data folder and ran the .bat file one more time, and this time it seemed to work until I got a whole list of mods currently installed with "Access Denied" error messages next to them. I thought it worked, only to be upset to find out that when I launched OBMM after that, I found the load order to be the same as always. Could anyone also please help me with getting BOSS to work?

Thank you all for your help.

1. it really doesn't matter ( unless stated as a requirement) what mod you install before another mod. Always install shivering isles and all patches first as newer mods will need those.

Load order is what you need to worry about :-) dezdimona usually comes along with a load order guideline post at times like this I am sure she will hit you up with that :-)

about the boss program read the read me and make sure you have all the requirements for boss. after that make sure you extract all the files into the program files\bethesda softworks\oblivion\data folder.

double check that the files are in the data folder and not in the oblivion folder.

also make sure you have the latest version.

and before installing fcom you should already have installed one or more of the following

OOO,MMM,Frans,Warcry/bob's armory.

I only use OOO and MMM and they work fine together without Fcom.

Thanks for your help! About the BOSS program, yes I've read the readme countless times and I even had my brother read it for me just to be 100% sure! And even so, I still get the weird "access denied" error. I believe I'm the only person with this problem because when I searched my issue on google and yahoo no related topics appeared on the list. Once again, thanks for your help!

EDIT//

Also, must I really install one of the four overhaul mods you listed before installing FCOM? I really don't understand why this is so, since FCOM is basically a collection of all four. I have never heard of this before, either as an option or as a requirement. Thanks anyway!

FCOM is not a collection of the other mods...

It is simply a mod that allows the other large mods to all work in oblivion at the same time .

If you only have one of the overhaul mods installed there is no need for fcom, As i said I use both MMM and OOO only and i do not have fcom installed everything works great. :-)
