hMMM... I have problem. ...I think...

Ok, so I've just started the mages guild faction and I'm on the part named "Ulterior motives". Well, that's the bit where you're trying to speak with Count Janus Hassildor, but you must speak to his steward, Mercator Hosidus and he says the count will not speak until the next day.

So, I waited 24 hours, spoke to him again, but all he says is "Has it been a day yet? No?" and so on, so then I thought, hmmm, maybe I need to sleep, not just wait, so I went to my house in Skingrad (as I was in castle Skingrad anyway) and slept for another 24 hours. I returned yet again, and again he said the same thing! I got a bit twitchy at this point but I decided to wait it out another 4 more days, just to be safe. I visited that rude little

arse munching, poop licking male without a father

Mercator once more and guess what... He said the same damn thing! Now, I don't know whether I have forgotten to do something, have gone passed the point or there is a glitch, whatever. >:(

Well, I took my frustration out on Mercator by trying to kill him, but of course, he won't die. :verymad: And then the guards come along and... Well you get the picture. :wallbash:

Anyone else gone through this? Not sure why this has happened, but can anyone help me? 'Much appreciate it.

Thanks. :thanks:

Okie dokie. I'll try, but I usually speak to him around 9 to 11 am. What sort of time should I be speaking to him? It doesn't specify in the game but prehaps it assumes you'd know. Guess I don't. lol

Thankie sai.

Bugs

* If you wait inside the castle for 24 hours after Mercator Hosidus tells you to come back tomorrow, it is possible that Mercator just keeps telling you to come back tomorrow. If this happens, go outside the castle before waiting (or finish other quests).

o PC Only This bug is fixed by the Unofficial Oblivion Patch.

* Once you have reached stage 40 of this quest, Janus will refuse to talk to you anymore. This is the quest stage after the ambush has been foiled and Janus has told you that he is a vampire. If you try to talk to him, he will respond:

I've said all there is to be said. Trouble me no more.

And he will refuse to say anything else. Although this is not a problem in completing the Ulterior Motives quest, it can prevent progress in any other quests involving Janus (in particular, Vampire Cure and Allies for Bruma). To fix the problem, you simply need to finish this quest: go talk to Raminus Polus in the Arcane University and receive your reward.

That's the bugs section of uesp page. If it doesn't help to fix it then you have a problem with the loaded save. Try restarting Oblivion and loading your save before you talked to him and try again. On the off chance that doesn't work, i'm not sure what you can do. Good luck.
