question on modding armor stats

I downloaded the giger armor and I feel as though its stats are far to low, adding up to about 15, so I want to change it, I looked up some guides on how to do this, but they only talked about how to change the graphics of the item. I have the construction set, and all necessary files to change any graphics, but all I want to know how to do, is change there stats, and maybe add in some enchantments. Any help would be incredibly appreciated.

You already have the construction set, thats the first step :-)
