Riain
I am modding some power armor and for the eyes I made them glow red. Unfortunately, they still shine in the sun light like metal. An area that glows should not also be shiny like metal... Is there any way to make it so that an area of a texture is not shiny, like adding another texture file over it? I have just started messing with textures so I do know much about changing their effects. Thanks
Pelinor
The alpha channel on the normal map (_n.dds file) controls the specular. To get no shine you would color the eyes black on the alpha. Are you using a glow map (_g.dds) for your glowing? It would shine all of the time, regardless of lighting, instead of just in the sun.
Riain
I am using _g.dds for the glow map. What I mean by shine is that the texture is reflecting the light. So yes the glow map causes it to glow all the time but I don't want that area to reflect the sun light. So I guess coloring the eyes black on the alpha channel in the _n.dds file will still make them non-reflective? EDIT: Also how do I save the _n.dds file? Do I use DXT5 with minimaps? Pelinor
So I guess coloring the eyes black on the alpha channel in the _n.dds file will still make them non-reflective?Yep, that should make it stop reacting to light. There's a glowing eyes mod for beasts at night which might give you some ideas if you run into any more trouble. (Edit: Save it just like you would any texture with alpha. I think they use full mip map on the original.)
Riain
Yep seems to work. Thanks! Didn't find that mod, though.
