Random CTDs AGAIN

So, I've already posted a similar thread before, but it's back.

After my game became unplayable due to CTDs after the last patch, I stopped even bothering and waited for a new one-Now that the 1.1 patch is out, I tried to get back into the wasteland and... here we go again.

The game crashes every time a new cell is loaded. Taking down the visual settings does nothing, it just takes it a minute longer to crash. I've got the newest drivers for everything, I've gone the ffdshow route, i've run a clean install. Nothing works-I get maybe 30 minutes of playtime after starting a new game and getting out of the vault, and it starts happening. It doesn't matter if I'm running a clean game or if i'm running 50 mods.

Specs are C2D 6750, Nvidia 8800 GTS, 4 GB RAM.

Honestly, I've played indie alpha releases that worked better than this. I want to love the game and am trying to add my part to the library of mods for it, but if this is what the initial product is, I don't think I can be bothered any more.

ETA: It's not an issue with my hardware. I can run any other new game (Dead Space, Far Cry 2, and the more demanding older games like Mass Effect/Assassin's Creed) just fine.

EDIT: Forget that, it helped for about 5 min, then corrupted all my saves. vulk you, Bethesda.

you're in the same place as me by the looks of it.

i've given up playing F3 and gone down the modding route instead. there aint time for both so im happy with that.

hopefully Bethsoft might just fix it in the patch w're hoping for before DLC comes out

ctd fix will only be includet in the cumulative addon package that will be available in april for 30$ i think

as long as there is absolutely NO reaction from bethsoft to the ctd direction, i don´t think anything will be fixed.

they have completly ignored these issues for 1.1 and just fixed some gameplay issues...thats it.

Yup. Problem is, I can't even test my mods as of now. Soooooo yeah. For some reason I never had a single problem with Morrowind/Oblivion, even though I bought both at launch.

Not to rain on anyone's parade, but I think this WAS the last patch before DLC-seeing as it added nothing but more Windows Live shovelware. The main menu does have a downloads button now though! Yaaaaaaay.

Woohooo! Even more fun comin'!

I've run a completely fresh install, redid everything, now I get ~20 mins of play before random CTDs start. But now whenever I bring up the pip-boy, the game CTDs as well.

I would have happily waited another 6 months for this game if it meant it'd come out as a working title. STALKER had less game-breaking problems than this release.

Speaking of, I'm off to play Shadow of Chernobyl. See you in a couple of years when this game works.

Check the driver version for your nvidia card. If it's 181.20, THAT is what's most likely causing the crashes, not the actual game.

Update the driver and it should hopefully fix the problem.

At least you're getting back to the desktop. Mine not only crashes, it shuts down my video card, forcing a reboot.

Going to check the latest driver update. If that doesn't work...

The issues I had with Fallout 3 were one reason why I won't play it anymore. Gosh, I'm so glad that I didn't buy the game. Instead, a friend gave it to me and now guess why he did so. He actually could play the game alot better than me with far less crashes, but it was still "too gamecrapping" he said^^.

I even have a theory which might explain why Beth didn't react and created a patch:

When checking the Gaming news some months ago(I think in December or November), I read an article about the top 5 pirated games with FO3 being on 2nd place with about 600.000 illigally copies or downloads(I still wonder where the heck they had those numbers from...). Well, my theory is that Beth is assuming that all gamers with constant CTDs are playing a pirated version which is why they didn't create a patch for it.

I really, really hope that my theory is wrong... As an Modblivion fan, I'm kinda looking forward to TESV, but if the support for it will be as bad as for FO3, I will probably not spend the 30£ for it...

Ah yes, now that I think of it, I also read a post about the Fallout 3 issues. Too bad I can't find the post anymore, but it was like this: Someone who bought FO3 was really surprised about the weird CTDs with it. He then bought a couple of copies of the game and gave it to the workers of his IT department who then had to analyse the game's hex code. They created a spreadsheet with all bugs and their cause. I remember 2 of them: SecuROM which was I think Version 7 Beta and .NET Framework 3.0 Beta. Later one surprised me even more when I read that at that time, a fixed not-beta-anymore version was already out, but not included... I forgot the rest, the 2 mentioned reasons however where the main cause for most issues.
