There are too many loot drops in the game, it a) makes the search for good items pretty boring b) makes players like me (who want to pick up everything) waste a huge amount of time. I think a lot of people would appreciate the pleasure of really feeling like you've earned that good item rather than just settling on something among the pool of the thousands of items you find in any given play session.
