I know there's a mod to remove the "life story" NPC greetings. Walking past people and hearing them prattle on about whatever became kind of a joke among the fans. However, stopping them from talking isn't the perfect solution. I would kind of prefer they just greeted you in the way normal people would. "Hello." "Good morning." "How are you?" "What can I do for you?" NPCs have lots of lines like this. It would be best for these to be their default, just walking by lines, and continued interaction with the NPC, whether in a conversation or just standing there, should use the life stories.
