Will there be a top 100 ranking?

When I started playing Oblivion it was well after release. One of the ways I decided which mods to try was the Nexus Top 100 list. Is there going to be any ranking of the mods for Fallout 3? I looked over the index and noticed there are already well over 2000 mods. That is a lot to sift through to find the good ones.

This is i think the 5th post asking this question (hehe no offence, just find it amusing to see it asked every week hehe)

and so far I think people have made their own 'top 100' favorites, but nobody has really made up an official list where people vote.

unless im mistaken....

I agree though we should somehow setup a voting system and a ranking list :)

My rule of thumb is when I view a category, I use the "Organize" feature.... set it to downloads and descending. Granted you miss out on newer good ones, but if a mod is HOT... it gets up on that list quickly.

plz mind that neither top 100 nor top downloads grants you good quality... i had mods of the top 100 which crashed all the time or were full of bugs or just plain and simple were totally unoriginal (frostmourne lol... great quality but oh so lame !imo!... each his own)

also those mods that get downloaded the most are often downloaded cause of the name or cause many people donwload it not cause its amazing stuff (release somin called "boob shooting 50cal nude patch for m16" and youll get 5k dls in no time lol) ...

dont get me wrong such lists sure help but they are definately no guarantee...

and plz mind that top lists like the one at falloutplanet are utterly supercrap... they are even being manipulated by the mods or whomever or simply dont work, i dunno which...

nexus lists are usually at least somewhat fair and offer a descent amount of reliability

well not a very constructive post but i thought its mentionable ;)

Yeah, I've found the ratings system is a little skewed. Ratings seems to be way high for most things on here - IMO, of course. It seems like many people rate 10s based on an idea and not necessarily on execution of said idea.

Then again, maybe TESNexus ratings are the same. I spend less time over there. And, of course, I could be completely off base.

As an aside, this is the first time I've seen this topic on the forums.

Agreed, there is no good way to sort the mods.

Downloads means nothing, because the more often you release updates and bug-fixes, the more often people need to download the mod again.

A mod that works perfectly from start and don't need updates can't compete with that.

Sorting on rating is pointless. Foremost because it sorts on the average, that means a mod with one 10

will place higher than a mod with 50 ratings and an average of 9.5,

but also because the ratings are skewed like the above poster mentions.

HUGE differance between quality and stability.

so say, if my Wastelanders Weapon Pack was included in the top 100 list, it would be for quality and not stability as it causes CTD's for little to no reason at all lol

problem is finding the balance for a top 100 list that gives users access to both stable and unique content..

which is going to be a hard system based on downloads alone or anyone single factor (such as ratings)

I'm not saying to just aimlessly download the top downloads. When you have 2000 mods I use the download amount to determine which mod I am going to look at more closely. Read the comments and so forth.

I never look at ratings. It is opinion based. Just like movie reviews. You have a person who likes romance movies during a review on an action movie... there is definitely a higher chance they will provide a negative review. Which I usually don't see bad ratings here, but it is still opinion driven. Some people hate over powered guns and some people like having a gun that could destroy the world in 10 minutes... Its a crap shoot.

I still think download count is the best option to weed it out. You at least know 2000 other people thought the mod was unique enough to try it out. Then if you check comments, you can see of those 2000 people quickly uninstalled it.
