Ralkahn
Maybe I'm wrong, and even if I'm right I don't have the necessary skills to pull it off, but...... Could you just check the Has Scope option for all weapons and make a .nif file of each individual weapon in the correct position? Is there a reason I'm not seeing that this wouldn't work? It certainly bypasses the problem with being unable to edit the animations tailored to each weapon. The only drawback I can think of (assuming it would work) is that aiming in third person would snap back to first every time you pressed the aim button. But really, is this much of a problem for most?
Skree000
Iron sights will be included for all weapons with a scope in my BF2142 mod pack. Its just a matter of making a custom scope NIF for every gun. The way scopes work right now is it overlays a black flat surface in front of your camera with a crosshair. Just a matter of taking that plane and deleting it, and replacing it with a enlarged specially-cropped version of your weapon with higher-resolution textures on the backside. When you 'zoom in' it will be seamless for example... http://www.kolcrosbie.com/Scope02.jpg
TheCryptKeeper
Well, your probably not going to be able to get iron sights for every weapon...1. Miniguns and Gatling Lasers. The way you hold them. But with Missile launchers, Fatmans and stuff held on the shoulder, you could add like, a sight-like thingy that helps you determine where you need to shoot.2. Railway Rifles, and every energy weapon will need to be modify-ed to have sights..But most small guns, it would be O.K. But maybe if your talking about make like, custom red-dot scopes and such. everything would be all good...'Cept Miniguns and Gatling Lasers... Ralkahn
@ TheCryptKeeper Yeah, the heavy ordinance would be a problem, you're right. But I wasn't even speaking with a mind to which weapons would be feasible. Just that people have been clamoring for iron sights since day 1, at least, and to my recollection, most of the modder replies were problems with animation replacement. Leastwise, the ones I saw. I was looking at something unrelated in the GECK FAQ when it occurred to me. @Skree000 Aha! Thought so. Glad to see someone else is working on that. Also looking forward to seeing what you put together for your mod. Pic looks good.
neok182
Making it render is pretty easy. i figured it out myself. You replace the scope file which has black all around with a transparent center with a file thats totally transparent or like what Skree is making and then it shows that instead of the black scope. Pelinor
I'd like to see your scope nif. I tried what you describe long ago; and it doesn't render the sides, or more specifically, it renders nothing but ambient sky and water under the cell.
