Newbie needs help

So, I'm new to modding. I've downloaded a bunch of mods but some of them don't work and I don't know why. I'm doing it all through Vortex because I have no idea how to do it otherwise. The example I will use is the Shiny Umbreon cat replacer. I installed it, it's up to date, but my cat's still a cat. All skin mods do this. Taking a closer look at SMAPI, it is not even listed as one of the loaded mods. Several other mods do this. They are up to date, installed, set to enable, but when I launch the game they don't show up in the SMAPI and are not implemented. I have no idea how to solve this, which is sad 'cuse I really want to use these mods, especially the Trent's New animals mod and the skin mods. The only error messages in my SMAPI are about the ones that are out of date. I'm almost scared to download any more since this keeps happening... Please help!!!

Sure! Let's go over the errors:

16:47:17ERRORSMAPI- Content\Data because it's not a SMAPI mod (see https://smapi.io/xnb for info)

If a mod has a Content Folder and not a content.json and manifest.json, this is an XNB mod. These were how we modded before content patcher. You replace the files within the actual game and it isn't recommended. If it's an old xnb mod, you will damage your game.

These three errors are pretty obvious. The mods are not updated for use in the current Stardew Valley/ SMAPI version. You should just Delete them or Verify that there is a more updated version:

As you can see, your log shows that there IS updates for at least two of the mods.

This error states that you're missing a required mod. To fix this error download the mod.
