llloyd
Ok. I am trying to figure this out. Smithing is at 90. I take a Blacksmith Elixer and I improve a Skyforge Battle Axe to 115 (Legendary), later, same potion, roughly the same Smithing skill, I can only get a Nordic Greatsword up to 77 (Legendary). I checked, potion is in effect, so how is a 21 base damage weapon * better * than a 42 base damage weapon when improved by the same degree (90 skill + 50% potion) ? llloyd
I'm starting to think that the Skyforge Steel is bugged somehow. Haven't made dragonbone weapons yet, but I managed to get a Dadric greatsword that I could only push up to 87 with 90 in Smithing and the Elixer to boost it another 50%. That doesn't seem right, so, I have no idea how I got Skyforge two handed weapons over 100 but I did. O.o
Hannibal139
Nordic greatsword base damage is like 20 actually and skyforge battleaxe has 21 base damage. Daedric weapons can only be improved greatly when you have daedric smithing perk activated in smithing perk tree.

I then crafted a dragon bone great sword and improved both with a Black Smith Elixir. 108 for the Dragon Bone great sword and 143 for the Skyforge Steel great sword. * hmm * I am wondering if it has anything to do with Weapon and Armor Fixes Remade mod? llloyd
Then again ... Ok, this is a bit confusing, at least for me. When you got over 1000 hours in the game and then learn something that is like "Uhh?" ... Looking at a table of great swords, there is only like 10 base damage spread between all of them, from 15 for an Iron to 25 for a dragon bone. 10 damage is a spit in the wind. Let me see... Going to make some guesses here, if I am wrong, feel free to politely correct me. According to the wiki... Display Damage = (base damage + smithing increase) * (1 + 0.5 * skill/100) * (1 + perk effects) * (1 + item effects) So, with all things being equal. Base is a +/- 10 , smithing increase being the same (100+50%+appropriate perk doubling ) , skill being the same, same perk effects, and item effects then the Skyforge Steel should be 5 points under Dragon Bone. But it's not, so something isn't equal here. I run a SKSE plugin that perks me every time a skill raises up enough to get the next perk tier. So I have all the smithing perks. So when I chug a potion then improve all the weapons in my inventory at the same time they all should improve to the same level. So I am obviously missing something that will explain why a base 20 weapon is improving to 143 were a base 25 weapon is only improving to 108. But the reason I see it as a bug is that Skyforge Steel is starting equipment, literally you can run from Helgan to Whiterun and join the Companions, do a dungeon clean up or 'beat them up', a Nordic burial mound, then be handed a SKyforge Steel weapon of your choice pretty early. So it shouldn't be so good that you never replace it ever as nothing else gets better than it. There is no weapon progress, no motivation to get/make better weapons or go for the side quests to get more powerful weapons as there are none, the Skyforge steel weapon you was handed for free is stronger than even dragon bone. O.o I mean at most you can 'get good' at Enchanting and add maybe a fortify two handed to your armor and some elemental / soul trap enchant to the Skyforge Steel but otherwise, eh. You know what I mean? Sources : https://skyrim.gamepedia.com/Damage https://elderscrolls.fandom.com/wiki/Greatswords_(Skyrim)
