Hi all, yes this is my first post, i am asking a pretty 'noob' question about creating houses and buildings in Oblivion Construction Set.

I want to know whether when you create, say a house mod, does the modder use already created and textured walls, floors, doors etc. made when the game was created, then just slots them together to create a building?

(like "Battle Field 2" Sandbox mod? if your familiar)

or does the person/modder have to create the house in blender or a 3d program?

Im am hoping the it is the first one as it seems in my minds eye to be much, much easier..

Im asking these questions because i plan to (when i get home, buy Oblivion, download C.S and get familiar with it) To create an extra area/tower/house near the top of I.C tower... the big thing in the middle of the city...

I plan to have portals to this 'house' and portals out of the house...

I think its going to be like and extra 'wizards tower' branching of the near top of I.C tower...

any suggestions?

Thanks for your help

sincerely tek-

It's the first. You use parts available in the game and parts from modders resource mods that add more parts.

Lucky you. The WIKI tutorial for the CS starts with how to make a simple house mod. Located here.

http://cs.elderscrolls.com/constwiki/index...inner%27s_guide

To clarify a bit... Most of the buildings that you see ingame, when you get the game, are made of a single mesh object. This means that most of the problem is really in figuring out which of those mesh objects is suited to what you want to make, and you are pretty much limited by what is available from the game, or what is downloadable as a resource.

Making a new mesh, although it can overcome those limitations, requires access to a program like Blender or 3dsMax, and considderable knowledge in using said programs.

Your best course of action would likely be to make use of what is available, even if it isn't exactly what you want, or nothing close, if only to learn what is required. Unfortunately, most of the pieces that make up the IC tend to only fit right in their specific spots, and can't really be moved or adjusted with much success.

Thankyou bben46, jaysus and Vagrant0 for your help, i figure i will, once i can access Cs, start looking at the parts at my disposal, i guess i will figure a way to work it all out, if that doesn't work i can always use blender! not that bad at modeling but texturings' different altogether...

But most of the house and castle mods out there where created from ingame parts right>?>?

Ok, ill see what i can scavenge from the internet.

Thanks for you help, tek-

mmmh dunno... i use max and its imo much easier to create custom architecture than in solid works or "real" CAD progs imo at least for stuff that doesnt consist of 4 walls and a roof...

its just not as good for plotting the stuff afterwards but we dont wanna plot do we?
