Can't start a new games with custom race mods

Hey guys i just started playing oblivion and kinda new with this modding stuff .

I install many mod in fallout 3 and NV before with no problem at all.

Back to oblivion. When i first start a new game i notice that the character design is very ugly, so i search for many face and character mod.

I install Ren beauty pack, corean and epic elves mods altogether so i can decide which custom race i like better.

The problem is when i start a new games after i create my character, I can't trigger the first event ( The other prisoner mock you and then the king and his guard enter your cell ) so i kinda stuck in the beginning.

I have no choice to create imperial character to start the event, and then i finish the tutorial and change my race to my custom race mods. It's worked perfectly i play the last 3 hour with no problem at all.

My question is :

1. Is it normal that you can't trigger the first event with custom race mods ?

2. Are there any other event mainquest / sidequest that i can't trigger because i play custom race mods ?

( this ones worried me very much because if i can't trigger some of the event then all the time i spent in the games will be worthless and i have to start all over )

Yes, this is totally normal. Bethesda made the brilliant design decision to 'hard-code' Valen Dres' responses to individual races. Now, using races he doesn't have a reply for, will not advance the main quest.

There's another point in the Vanilla game where you need to be one of a fixed list of races for the quest to advance, and this is with one of the Daedric Princes. I fail to remember his name though. It's the tournament thing where one of each race enters and only 1 (hopefully you) survives. The race you are of decides where you start in the Oblivion plane the tournament takes place, and again being of an unknown race renders the script unable to make this decision.

However, for this and the Valen Dres disaster there's so-called "Custom Race Fix" mods among the first mods ever released. Nowadays there's one included within the Unofficial Oblivion Patch (UOP), which is an inevitable addition to everyone's game anyways, but it needs to be 'installed' more or less as the first mod you install or it will potentially revert other mods' changes back to Vanilla, and you can always use a stand-alone solution of a Custom Race Fix instead anyways.

These mods simply add a "catch-all" condition into the decision processes at both places. With the UOP for example Valen Dres will say something like "I don't even know what you are, but *insert regular insults here*" and this will make the quest advance again.
