Hi everyone

Not sure if this problem has come up before here , but I cant enter Helgen Keep with Hadvar . When I go up to the door of the Keep and press ENTER , nothing happens .

Is there a fix for this ? I know if I cant fix it I Have a feeling that I will not be able to enter Dungeons , under ground caves ect .

Thanks for any help

I am playing Skyrim Special edition .

I would think it would be related to a mod conflict.

My advice would be to uninstall all your mods except for USLEEP and play through the intro until you emerge from Helgen cave. Then make a few saves and start adding mods from there.

If you do not want to uninstall your mods you could use an alternate start mod like Live Another Life and see if that works. I would not advise that though because if you do have a mod conflict it will eventually break your game, if not now then later.

Have you run LOOT and TES5Edit?

Skyrim has a tutorial feature at the beginning of the game, after Alduin's attack during the execution scene.

It gives on-screen "text" cues, to help teach new players how to navigate the game with the player-controls.

When the player reaches the door, a cue comes up on screen, "Enter the Keep." That can be confusing, as it was to us when we first played. As if you should hit the "enter-key" on your PC keyboard.

Instead, simply try moving into the door with the forward-movement control you are using on your keyboard. Press the "forward-movement" key, while your player-character is facing the door.

That may be the "w" key, if you have not yet customized your controls. We like to use the keyboard-remap function in Skyrim so that the keyboard-controls "forward" is the up-arrow key instead. (Prevents us from accidentally hitting nearby letter and other keys.)

Skyrim should give you a "loading screen" after you move forward into the door, after which you will be inside Helgen Keep. If this doesn't work, or isn't the issue, then maybe the issue IS a mod.

Just to make sure we are being helpful.

Are you using a keyboard on PC? The traditional Skyrim mapping for forward movement, we recall, is pressing the "w" button. So, we're assuming you pressed "w" when you saw the "enter the keep" message, and nothing happened?

For us, (two of us answering here), we have remapped our keyboard, so our forward movement is changed to the "up-arrow" button. When we see the "enter Helgen Keep" message, we react by pressing and holding the up-arrow, and Skyrim gives the loading screen to enter Helgen Keep, and then our character is inside the Keep, with the door back out locked.

If you are on console, then you may have a different command on your controller for simply moving forward.

If this doesn't work, or hasn't worked, then your cleanest method to make progress is to disable all mods, start a new game, progress past the intro to the "Enter-the-Keep" advice, and enter the Keep.

Next, with your character inside the keep, save your game using a "hard save," not a quick save, inside the keep. (Never quick-save, we suggest.)

You may have to do some battle first with Ralof or Hadvar, before making a "clean" (means no mods enabled) hard-save on an unmodded Skyrim, inside the Keep.

Once you have that first save, make your character take a few steps and make another hard save. So, now you have two hard saves in Helgen Keep, the second one a minute later than the first.

Now exit the game, load your mods, and check their conflicts. Start up the game again, and load the second Helgen-Keep save to see if you can progress. We also like Vortex very much for helping us sort and find Mod-Conflicts.

Note, you may have to revalidate your game through STEAM, and there is advice in these and other forums on how to do that.

Sometimes the basic SR files themselves get corrupted by STEAM updates and other alterations, and you must Verify your Game/local cache again at STEAM, to get it to work.

Good luck!
