Tag Search Organizational Overhaul

The release of the GECK has seen a substantial increase in the number of downloads being posted to FO3Nexus on a regular basis. Before the number becomes as great as it is on TESNexus, I think now would be the best time for a HUGE overhaul in the tags usable for searching, in order to ease the browsing of mods relevant to one's interest, and so that we can organize everything now before the number of mods becomes too great. As it stands, even with the tags set up right now, mods are everywhere, and it's rather difficult trying to find things that you want in a specific category. The tools simply aren't enough to filter out the mods we want to find, especially for those of us who only desire to do a little window shopping.

I've set up a rough draft of what I think would be the best way to organize everything. This is by no means complete. Whether these get implemented into tags or categories is up to question, though considering the number of ways to sort these categories, it'd probably be best to set them up as tags.

I have two base sets of tags here. One is "mod school", and the other is "mod type". "Mod school" refers to the type of mod that it is, like animation, models, textures, sounds, utilities, or functionality. "Mod type" refers to what exactly it affects in the game, like characters, the environment, quests, weapons, or armor. The basic idea is to have each mod be tagged with at least one school, and then at least one modding type. There is a third set of tags called "Style Attributes", which refers to very specific interests. It's basically a readaptation of the currently existing "Attributes" category. Then there's "Languages" and "Other", as normal.

Let's have a couple examples.

A mod that changes the 10mm gun into a Beretta M9 and increases its damage would be tagged under the "Models" and "Gameplay" schools, and then under the "Objects - Weapons" type. One thing to note, even though it uses new textures, it isn't tagged "Retextures" since it's not a retexture of an existing in-game object, but rather a new texture for a new object entirely. Since it's a model of a real-life weapon, it'd also have the "Real World" style attribute tag.

A mod that changes the little beepy sounds made when using the in-game interface or PipBoy would be in the "Audio" mod school and the "User Interface" mod type.

A mod that changes the blood textures on the ground would go under the "Retexture" mod school and the "Decals" mod type.

A mod that adds a new companion to the game would go under the "AI" school and the "Lore - NPC's" type, as well as have the "Companions" style attribute.

How does it look so far? I think even though there's so much more room for improvement on this, if we made a switch to this one it'd be a huge improvement over the one being used now.

These tags mirror the ones for Oblivion/morrowind and have been in use for quite some time.

So there is no need to reinvent the wheel if it still goes around.
