Shotokanguy
One thing I'm surprised people don't talk about more is how bad it can look when you watch two NPCs fight each other. They look like they are just standing there, swinging swords and at the air until someone falls. Attacks don't actually hit, they stop a few inches in front of the target and a spurt of blood comes from...somwhere. A dragon fight can feel silly when you aren't able to actually get up and touch its wing and smash you axe into it - you just walk into the collision box of the dragon's wing, and start swinging even though you've got this invisible barrier keeping you a few feet away from the actual dragon. I'm sure you all know what I'm talking about, but here's a video that demonstrates this behavior in Skyrim clearly: The gargoyle's attacks don't come close to hitting the Boneman. The Boneman's blood spurt (should those things have blood spurts?) comes from an incomprehensible spot, and the two NPCs cannot actually touch each other because of Skyrim's...weirdness. I think making this aspect of the game look better and more realistic would help any combat in the game feel much better. It might not look so bad in first person, but the collision detection still works the same. But if you get a sense of your opponent actually being there, it feels like you're actually hitting them.
