As a Sniper: Repair skill or merchant?

Hello,

since i own the Pitt DLC, i will focus on getting two guns for the whole time, so i can produce ammo for them. then i wont have to switch too much, and i hate switching weapons.

Anyways, I want got the reservists rifle, and will try to get the special scoped .44 magnum in the citadel.

The magnums appear pretty often in the game, ive heard, so it would be worth getting a good repair skill. But ive been warned that sniper rifles are too rare to justify a high skill.

So I'm thinking about just having them repaired for me.

How costly is that? Will I have enough money later in the game to afford it? I know in Point Lookout, theres a guy harley that can get his skill up to 100%.

Or are there always enough rifles in order to allow me repairing them myself? I kind of hate this system tbh. A full rifle every time i need to repair a part? Why cant we buy the repair parts at vendors?

Anyways, could someone give me advice on how to proceed? How important is repairing anyways?

Thank you

Making money by scavving and hauling stuff in for sale is always an option. It can be amazing just how much $$$$$ one can accumulate this way.

Also depends how modded up you are or want to be.

There are mods that reduce or even eliminate the rate at which hardware (weaponry) wears out. There are others that will improve the Repair skills of vendors such as Moira and some of the Caravan crew to 100%. There are also mods that alter weapon repair requirements in various ways - such as being able to use Scrap Metal, buy various kinds of Repair Kit or have Workbenches provide bonuses to Repair attempts..

I suggest checking out some of these out - certain of the WMK series might be especially handy.

Depends if you want to spend time hauling your ass to people that can repair your items. If you don't mind it, you might as well get your repair up higher. But chances are that you won't find the right items to repair your rifle with laying around all the time. So my advice, is to just keep your repair low if you're playing a little bit casually. If you're really in it for the long run with that character, get your repair up and also get skillbooks, you'll be able to get everything to 100 anyway, so you don't really have to think about managing your skillpoints all that much.
