Corrupted sound file

A while ago I had a problem with constant crashes for no apparent reason. Finally, I gave up guessing and started from scratch, disabled all the mods, and attempted to start a new game. Guess what? Crash. So, I got rid of all the saves except for five of the latest entries. The game started and I played it for about five minutes and it crashed again. This time, though, crash fixes actually gave me a report saying that the crash originated in the following place:

c:\ProgramFiles(x86)\Steam\SteamApps\Common\Skyrim\Data\Skyrim - Sounds.bsa

I tried deleting the file assuming it was corrupted, and downloaded a fresh copy from Steam. The game started and played until I tried to fast travel, then crashed. I restarted the game and ran to my destination instead. As soon as I tried to save it it crashed again and I got the same message from crash fixes about the sounds.bsa file. I have nothing running that would create any sounds other than what is default in nthe vanilla game (basic Skyrim LE with all DLC at the moment - nothing extra). Has anyone ever had this problem? Is there a way to overcome it?

My system:

Gateway desktop with Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit OS

Intel Core i3 processor

1 TB HD with 12gb DDR3 Mem

NViDIA GEForce GT610 graphics, RealTek Sound @ 16bit, 44100 Hz

 Pretty frustrating at this point. I have a system that should run this with a problem, but it doesn't.

We don't recall what we did, but we had something similar. We did not pursue the bsa sound files.

But after a couple hours research, we did find some info at the NVIDIA site about adjusting the NVIDIA global vid-game settings for how it manages a game's Hi-Def sounds. We apologize, we can't remember how we set it--and it may be unique to our card?

It seemed to fix the issue after we once again verified local cache and files at STEAM.

The process may have something to do with how the STEAM "initializes" the game to integrate with the graphics card settings?

GL.
