Help!

I've been pulling my hair out trying to get this modified mesh to work in the game.

Here's what it looks like in Nifscope...

And here's what it looks like when I view it with the GECK...

What am I doing wrong?

If you help me out I would be glad to give you partial credit after I re-texture and upload the mod. I want to make it a unique item enabled by an .esp file as well. But If you can get it working just as a re-placer that would be a start. Let me know and I'll send you the NIF file.

I can see the picture people post with image shack but I'd like to know why is it as far back as about 4-5 years ago, whenever I click an image to see it better, I only get brought to the main page of uploading an image and never the image itself? That doesn't make too much sense now does it.

Send me the NIF file. But I can pretty much guarantee you there is nothing wrong with it. You just are not rotating the picture in the G.E.C.K.

Try holding down the right mouse button, then moving the mouse left or right.

looks like a skinning problem, the mesh is not 100% weighted to the proper bone (node) so it looks stretched... i would guess. All polygonal stretching issues are related to skinning/rigging/bone-weighting problems

to change that you have to reorder your NIFskope data, make sure Bone nodes come first, then nitristripsdata inside the tree as a child of the node

Basically make your nif file same as the original (structure wise)

I think your right Skree. I've attached the NIF file to the first post so whoever wants to take a crack at it is welcome. I'm kinda burned out on the whole thing at the moment.

meshes/armor/headgear/helmetraider03

Ok what exactly are you trying to do with it? Because this whole situation makes no sense? I have taken and replaced countless meshes and stuff and I never have a problem with it?

I'm not getting why if you pulled it from the game files why you can't get it to work.

I'm missing something?

Did you alter the picture in anyway, recolor it... I'm not sure what your getting at or what your trying to accomplish with this?

If you look at the original file and mine you will see that they are different. I altered the mesh with Blender.

The difference is that one has goggles and tufts of fur sticking out of it, mine has none and an opening for the eyes...

OK this looks like the same exact issue as when you try to create a completely new item in certain parts of the Object window in the G.E.C.K. Certain parts of the G.E.C.K. will not let you create a new item and have it show up without the base picture. It's almost like the game has no where to put the information...

A better way for you to understand this is to go into the terminal section in the object window and then try to create a brand new terminal. Even if you edit all the data and create a unique ID for it and everything you still won't be able to save the information without a picture of the terminal.

Just like the terminal needs the base picture before it stores any information you give it, the same type of principle would apply about needing to create the base .dds picture of the helm before the game would allow you to store any information regarding the data in it.

So if this indeed is the case, then this is something along the lines of what you would need to do:

1. You need to create a .dds file of the same exact type.

2. Once you get the .dds and the .nif files the same

3. open the G.E.C.K. and go to the object data window world view and use the filter box and type form

4. then right click and select new then add the .dds to the form list

5. load the nif into the window then click edit

6. you then need to add the file name to the list at the top and then scroll through the list until you see your created version

7. Then you need to add the .dds file to the textures box

8. Once you get that all set up, close it. Then you should be able to get the model into the game perfectly

hope this helps
