brent13420
So I have been able to play fallout 3 goty for a very long time, I went to launch the game the other day and it failed to launch, i received an appcrash. I checked a few things, i have already done ffd show, large address aware, i have vista with a dual core processor. I have since removed all mods and then uninstalled fallout 3 and re-installed fallout 3 only. I can get it to install fine, but when I launch the launcher comes up fine but when I hit play it crashes within a few seconds. If, this is the weird part, i rename fallout3.exe to fallout 3.exe then the game works fine but alas I would not be able to mod the game as the mod programs do not point to the renamed file...I have tried quite a few various options to fix and am lost...Please Help!! Thanks in advance for your assistance.
Purr4me
Make a copy of that exe, place it in another folder in reversed order. rename your renamed file back to original file name, sense both files are not exactly the same, you can place them into the games root and they will reside there harmoniously together, shortcut to the renamed file you made to run the game, and the original file is there for you to mod with. The issue is Games for windows live that is preventing the original game from running. The discs software is out date for today's machines, Download the GFWL update program from Microsoft web site, update that, it will FIX the OS media players codex problems. Now you can disabler the games version using the GFWL disabler found here on the nexus. It won't mess with the Operating systems codecs, only the anti-cheat bug gets removed, temporary so. Either way, you now have multiple so lotions to try. Kitty.
Athloren
I was actually experiencing this very issue.Did these steps work? Alternatively, is there a way to redirect FOSE specifically so it points at this filename instead? I managed to use the launcher, a mod manager, along with the old file name(fallout3.exe) to set up and make mod load-orders and enable the mods and dlc's, and then switch it back to 'fallout 3.exe' to play the game. So, I can mod, just not anything using FOSE. Which is very limiting. *Also, I am on a PC, strictly. I tried getting the GFWL to follow these steps, but I can only seem to find the XBox version..? I must be blind. I must be blind.I will make arrangements from Microsoft for you and others to obtain the new versions, right now, 8.1 and industry things in in an up roar over the switching of data around. There is a whole lot going on. this applies to this only: " but I can only seem to find the XBox version..?" I have the links buried some where that connects to that servers source. Not the web page for sales Either. Support was pulled BTW.kitty.
