vonBennett
So I created my own custom textures for the fire extinguisher using GIMP (normal texture using Crazy Bump). I created the DDS file for the normal in Crazy Bump and the other two files (d and n) within GIMP by exporting them (Compression BC1 and generating MipMaps). In the Creation Kit, I created my own Form using the generic NIF for the fire extinguisher along with a custom material swap using my textures. When I load up the game the custom fire extinguishers are there and they look fine. The location is an interior cell with two upper main complexes and a lower smaller sub complex (all in one cell). The problem is when I get in an elevator to go to the sub complex, I get almost down to the bottom and then I get a CTD. If I go back into the creation kit and swap back the original fire extinguisher materials, I am able to move down into the sub level. note: I guess it seems that if I move away from the custom fire extinguisher, distance wise in game, it causes a CTD., I have not done any PreVIs or PreCombines yet; will do at end of mod creation but so far not experiencing any lag and draw calls are not that high. The custom textures are in loose files in my texture folder; I don't have them in a texture pack. Anyways, I am very new to making my own textures so I have to admit I am not totally sure what I am doing, I really am just learning off of u-tube instructional videos. Having said that, I am able to swap out textures and the do appear to be fine in game. So...does anyone have an idea why I am getting CTD in game with these custom textures? AFK, irc normal maps compressed with BC1 crashes the game.Normal and specular maps are usually use BC5 compression (only exports the red and green channel data). Also, Textures with a dimension that are _not in the power of 2 causes a CTD in Fallout 4.
