GamerGlyph
Hi everyone I'm new here: 2 weeks ago I decided that I wanted to start learning how to create mods on my own for my favorite games: Fallout 3, Fallout NV, and Skyrim. Now keeping in mind that I am only 2 weeks into starting to figure out the G.E.C.K for Fallout 3 and Fallout NV, I made the choice of wanting to create a starter companion as my very first project. So I watched as many youtube.com videos as I could, most of which were made in the U.K. and I learned quite a bit (I'd like to think). I am having issues though and I am still not sure if there is a forum to ask for help with creating mods or if there is a place on this website to do it; In other words am I in the right section for this? The Mod Background: Your family dog escaped the vault during one of the overseers research missions to Megaton. The dog ventured off and was unable to re-enter the vault, so as a good loyal companion should do, it waits outside the vault until its owner (the player - that's us) comes out to get him; basically once you escape Vault 101 there is a dog waiting for you. My Issues: The dog works wonderful, I tried not to make him too powerful. He has 2500 hits because when I duplicated Dogmeats stats this new dog just died too quickly... Anyway moving on: You Can Open Its PackYou Can Tell It To Wait(Guard), Follow, and Sandbox(Wander Off)It Will Even Heal Itself After CombatWhat The Problems Are: The dog is attacked by the people of Megaton when I tell it to Wait(Guard)The Fired and Goodbye commands of the script seem to be coming up in two places on the dialogue menu.Sometimes other NPC's will have some of the same custom dialogue I meant for this script appear in their dialogue menu. What exactly does Top-Level do? And... How important is the priority #? On A Side Note Regarding These Creation Kits... Is there anyone who can guide me through this process? I'm enjoying doing this, I think I can create some really nice mods, I just would love to ask a real person questions and get some good advice/help back. I hope to be writing some tutorials along the way to help others who might have similar issues. Thanks ahead of time
prensa
gametec - Hello!I'll try & help with a few of those problems."Sometimes other NPC's will have some of the same custom dialogue I meant for this script appear in their dialogue menu."You've not made the dialogue unique to your NPC.Highlight your custom dialogue in the Quest menu, right click the Conditions tab & select "New".In the window that comes up, click the "INVALID" button & scroll down to your NPC's ID, then click "OK". This means only your NPC will use the custom dialogue.Make sure that the "Condition Function" box says "GetIsId", the "Comparison" Box is "==" & the "Value" box is "1". Select "OK".I learnt that from this Custom Vendor creation guide:http://geck.bethsoft.com/index.php/Creating_a_new_vendor"What exactly does Top-Level do?"It's about where the topic of dialogue will be placed in the NPC's dialogue list when you speak to them.To quote the GECK guide site:"This topic will be included in the list of default topics; the ones that come up when an info isn't linked to anything in particular. ""How important is the priority #?"Priority sets where the topic will be placed in the list of dialogue that the NPC has.100 being the top of the list. All of these settings are explained in detail here:http://geck.bethsoft.com/index.php/Category:DialogueThat GECK guide is an excellent place to get information & instructions for working with GECK.It's got tutorials & reference information, I learnt much of what I know about GECK from there.http://geck.bethsoft.com/index.php/Main_PageAlso, often overlooked, is the Nexus Wiki section:http://wiki.tesnexus.com/index.php/Category:Fallout_3This has many articles, tutorials & interesting info that can be very useful."The dog is attacked by the people of Megaton when I tell it to Wait(Guard)"Check what faction you've got set on your dog.Make sure it does not have any factions that are enemies of the Megaton settlers, they may be seeing it as a vicious wasteland dog.Try to match Dogmeats settings as a guide.Hope this helps!Prensa
