SSE Help: Fetching/Modifying a base form using its Creation Kit Editor ID or Form ID

Looking for some dll help. I am trying to modify a base form (not the reference) from inside a dll. I have been able to do this in the past by creating a papyrus script variable then setting it in the creation kit to the form I want to modify and passing that to the dll. But what I really want to do is skip papyrus entirely. Fetch the base form directly from within the dll. Does anyone have experience doing this? I am using commonlibsse btw (but can go back to skse if required)
