Did you bother to read through the comments section to see what, if any, issues other users had? Those "wild edits" may be necessary for the mod to be able to what is intended.

all I saw in comments is that it's a very buggy mod, LOOT seemed to indicate it was dangerous.

 

I was wondering if it was common knowledge is all, if it's not then consider this thread something to just ignore

Many mods are dangerous. The ones with heavy scripting are usually dangerous. If you see too much comments about bugs, better to proceed with caution.

If it is a quest mod, you can install and go straight to the quest, and if there are no crashes in the first two hours, then you can assume it is safe to continue.

Also check your papyrus logs. If the log is too big (more than 5mb), open it and check if any script is repeating itself. If the script is from the mod you just installed, remove the mod and roll back your saves.
