Making a follower

I know this is a frequent topic, as Ive seen some threads about it already.

I tried making a follower in the creation kit and was successful in a vanilla race.

So, I looked into making a follower from a custom race which led me to this thread. But, after trying it with the Half-elf dryad race, I dont know exactly what went wrong... but it didnt work. Im not sure how to make a custom race follower.

From my understanding, I need to get the template for the race in creation kit to make the follower. But I dont understand how to get a custom race into the creation kit. I also dont understand how I could customize its appearance.

I would like to get a character closely resembling this as I could. But I didnt understand how to change characters appearance in creation kit, just making a average joe and placing him in the world.

In order to get the race to show in the CK, you need to load it up. When you start up the CK, load your follower .esp, make it active, then load the .esm for the custom race you want to use, along with any other esm's (Apachii, for example) that you want the follower to use. ESM's aren't made active, in case you're wondering, they just get selected for use. When you pull up the menu for your NPC, you will then find the custom race listed in the race menu. At that point you can select it and then use the character tabs to customize the appearance.

I tried to do it, but everytime I try the preview of the character it crashes, same thing happened when I tried placing it in the world. Also, I couldnt load the half-dryad.esm half-dryad.esp and apachiiskyhair.esm at the same time. the CK says im missing some things and I believe their the default equipment for the half-dryad. Idk whats wrong.

Also, that first follower I made, Had no hands in the game.

For starters you need to add

bAllowMultipleMasterLoads=1

under the [General] section in SkyrimEditor.ini.

That will allow you to load more then one master. As far as the race, I don't think you want to load its .esp. only the .esm. Also make certain the race is installed correctly. No hands means it's not finding the meshes for your race/character. The crash is probably a result of the CK being unable to find the necessary assets.
