Zalpha
I have looked all over the internet for a tutorial on how to create a new Fallout 3 map. From what GECK Wiki has to show, you can only edit the existing Fallout 3 world cell by cell... I am new too modding, it has been something I have wanted to get into for a long time. Geck is the first tool I have come across that will allow me to do what I want to do, however I can’t figure out how too.... I have downloaded all the tutorials and helpful info I could get my hands on but still no explanation on how to create your own world... I am a graphic designer and now how to use 3D studio max, Adobe Photo and Suite as well as many other programs, Geck isn’t that hard to navigate. From what I can figure you must use the default fallout 3 game data to open up the games resources, but can’t I wipe the map clean and create my own world? I saw a plugin once for 3D Studio Max that was for Neverwinter Nights 2 that allowed players to custom crate their own 3D terrain landscape and import it into the game, I notice fallout 3 had something similar in side it but I have never used it and don’t how too... Anyway any info you may have... anything (what you know, suggestions, web link referrals etc.) would be great help. So please post! XD
Cotes
Funny you ask, considering I've been trying it out just a moment ago. You can make new world space by World>World Space, and the right clicking the list on the left of the window that opens and selecting "new". Enter the ID you want and you have a new world space. Push the "World (Heightmap) Editing" button next to the "Landscape Editing" one, choose from the list the world space you created, and you can edit the whole map at once. There are plenty of options and files to be added into the new world space, and I haven't really figured it out yet myself. Keep experimenting and share what you figure out here, please. :P
rawrn00b
If you guys have Xfire add me so we can discuss this because I am working on a mod(see signature) and I am trying to self teach myself to use the terrain editor.Xfire=sargentcrunch
Cotes
Okay, there are few things I need to figure out at the moment: How to adjust the amount of cells. When you go to the world world space options, there are boxes to set SE and NW cell cordinates X/Y, but the Heightmap editor always has same kind of box, and the cells start at 0,0, always adding new cells (that are next to them) when double clicked. How far the double clicking adds cells doesn't seem to follow either the input SE and NW cordinates nor the height map's. And whenever I try to save at Heightmap editor, GECK crashes. SpeedyB64
I have used the heightmap editor and all those worldspace editing features so I know generally how it works. The heightmap editor will crash the GECK if you have any spots on the map that are at the bottom level so you should use the noise generation feature and fiddle around with the settings. (Not compleately sure what causes it to crash but I think it has something to do with height) after you have the heightmap done you can open the regions window and use it to make regions, once that is done you can select regions (by colour, and make sure you name all your new regions well) and generate random stuff in them. (like rocks and trees) After that you will want to put all the stuff into your world that you want in there. Once you are finished editing the world space in major ways you can generate the distant land with the lod generation tool, I suggest you back up your .esp first and make sure you have a lot of time beacuse lod generation takes a very long time (like 10 hours!, and it might not even work!) I have not yet successfully generated lod (It crashed on me) I am regenerating it right now. (crossing fingers and hoping it works)

XD I found this if you are still looking: http://www.truancyfactory.com/tutorials/fa...worldspace.html That is the best one I've seen yet. After a lot of searching and messing with the World Space creator/heightmap I think I've got it. You MUST extract the fallout3 textures BSA into somewhere. best is default fallout 3 directory. A good BSA extractor (not just 7zip or what not will make this easy. Be sure to have a water noise texture or it won't work When editing the heightmap watch your Z cooridinates or your land will be underwater. 10500 is water level. THere's more but I am exhausted.
