scottym23
Just recently whipped out an oldy but goody; fallout 3. Having a ton of fun making a new character and just playing through again on very hard difficulty. Even with the copious amount of mods I have installed the game runs flawlessly with no lag whatsoever even in heavy fps intensive combat interactions. However after about a half hour or so of playing it randomly froze and I had to quit out of it via task manager. It was an odd inexplicable occurrence so I decided to just load back up the game and shrugged it off as just some fluke...until it happened a second time after around the same amount of time played as when it froze the previous time. There's no reason why this should be happening and no commonalities between the two times it froze. Both times it was out of combat and in a light fps area. I also wasn't performing any action like opening my pipboy or anything; just walking casually. Can someone help me figure out how to solve this issue? Thanks for reading and I hope you can help! prensa
scottym23 - Hello!Sounds like the Fallout 3 multi core bug, it's the most common cause of freezing.Fallout 3 has trouble with multi core computers, mainly with ones that have more than two cores & use hyperthreading. If you've got a multi core computer then it's likely your problem. There is a fix, you need to edit your Fallout 3 .ini file. The one you want to change is:For XP:My Documents\My Games\Fallout3\For Vista & Win7:Documents\My Games\Fallout3The file you want will be called:FALLOUT.iniOpen the .ini with Notepad & change this line:bUseThreadedAI=0to:bUseThreadedAI=1& insert this line under it:iNumHWThreads=2Save & close your ini.Hope this helps!Prensa Edited May 7, 2013 by prensa
