Weapon will not pick up

Recommended Posts

I edited in a clip on the shotgun nif scope and blender reported no errors/issues but in the game it will not pick up, I do not understand whats going on?

I bet the rest of my weapons with edited meshes will not pick up either(there is no need to pick them up since they are sold by Moira).

I attached the nif file.

ZippyDSMlee - Hello!

Are you trying to make it a functioning weapon?

I've checked your model, it's missing several things like a NiStringExtraData node telling the game it's a Weapon, BSXFlags was set to 2 which is fine for statics but clutter should be 66 & weapons are usually 67. As well as several Collision settings be set for a static.

Not to mention none of the animations were working.

It was easier to just "Copy Branch" your magazine & "Paste Branch" it into the vanilla Combat Shotgun then "Copy" & "Paste Over" the drum.

A quick Transform - Edit to move the magazine in place & hey presto you've got a model that can be picked up & fired with all animations intact.

Here's a link to it:

Hope this helps!

Odd the weapons work fine. All I have been doing is importing it to blender, deleting whats not needed import the weapon I am adding it to then exporting with animation. That should import/export everything correctly.... So I should make my parts in blender then cut and paste them into the file with nifscope? I've got a couple that you have to place in blender there is copy over option in them... This is confusing if the nif stuff for blender dose not work why bother make it ><

edit

Thanks for the help, forgot to say that, I've gotten so fed up with mesh/modeling issues of late. >< Your version works fine I tried copying branch then removing the drum but the clip would not show up, very odd. Let me try it again....

Edit

Okay I got it to work but had to edit it in geck in order to get it to work 0-o.

I put up another weapon that works fine(reloads fine, fires fine, ect) but can not be picked up how to you suggest I fix it? Other than giving up LOL

And thanks again!

ZippyDSMlee - Hello!

"Thanks for the help"

You're very welcome! :)

"I've gotten so fed up with mesh/modeling issues of late. "

It can seem daunting at times, it does get easier as you get used to the various settings.

Nifskope used to be very confusing to me but in a realtively short space of time I was able to make some really fun things with it.

Looking at vanilla .nif's & using them to compare structures is a good guide.

" So I should make my parts in blender then cut and paste them into the file with nifscope? "

If it's just a new part, yes.

It's often best to use an existing model that's close to what you want & replace pieces like the drum magazine with your version.

The closer you stick to vanilla models the less likely you're going to break something in the .nif.

I've never mastered Blender but I've heard that you can often lose some blocks when eporting .nif's.

"I put up another weapon that works fine(reloads fine, fires fine, ect) but can not be picked up how to you suggest I fix it? Other than giving up LOL"

Definitely don't give up. :)

It could be it's collision settings in the bhkCollisionObject - bhkRigidBody block, compare those to a vanilla version of your .nif.

I can't see the new link, if you post the weapon I'll take a look at it & see if I can fix it.

ZippyDSMlee - Hello!

"So I think my main problem is collision data is not exporting right"

Well there's several things wrong with your models, they are missing the NiStringExtraData node telling the game it's a Weapon, BSXFlags was set to 2 basically same as mentioned above.

"how do I fix that?"

I've never mastered Blender, I use Nifskope for my .nif tinkering, so I can't give you much help with Blender myself.

However there is a good guide on the Nexus Wiki that covers import/export of weapons into Blender & back out to Nifskope here:

http://wiki.tesnexus.com/index.php/Blender_adjusting_and_exporting_weapon_meshes

That should be of help to you.

If you're not cutting up or drastically reshaping the meshes you're working on, you don't actually need to use Blender.

I've simply used Nifskope with these models to add & resize the parts like the dish.

You can resize objects in Nifskope with Transfrom - Scale Vertices & move them about with Transform - Edit.

You just copy branch & paste branch into the existing weapon to be modified & copy & paste over a duplicated part to attach it properly.

Here's a working version of your sonic pistol:

http://www.mediafire.com/?utno05dtxb2ibdi

I've used the default laser pistol to add your dish parts to, so you're going to have to redirect the model to your custom textures again in Nifskope.

I also spotted that you're not using virtual paths for your custom textures, the path you set for the new texture was:

c:\games\bethesda softworks\fallout 3 stuff\6.sonic pistol\1stpersonlaserpistol-sonicpistol.dds

Not sure if that's just a quick temporary path you use for testing but make sure it's not on the model when you post your mod.

Use paths that just start with "textures" like:

textures\weapons\1handpistol\laserpistol.dds

Hope this helps!

Well that didn't work everything started moving around when I copied over the nitristrips data. I give, the most important one was the shot gun as its a replacement to the normal combat shotgun, of which a street sweeper full auto variant is available at moiras shop, I guess I will just make them weightless that way there is no reason to throw them away. LOL

As for textures it dose say that sometimes I make sure it says "textures/" though.

ZippyDSMlee - Hello!

"Well that didn't work everything started moving around when I copied over the nitristrips data."

I don't understand, what's moving around?

That fixed version I link to should be ready to use, I tested it as a replacment for the laser pistol & it worked (apart from the textures of course as they were not set up for that).

Do you mean you need it to be a static & not a working weapon?

Where are you copying nitristrips, the model was ready for use.

A little confused. :)

I pasted over the nitristrips data and the laser pistol moved.

Would I have to open up 3 one to edit one vanilla weapon one of the weapon not to change but to get location data from and just cut and paste the transform location data?

edit

No opening 3 dose no good it says its location is 0/0/0 ><
