Adding DD to a large load order

Hello all

I'm thinking about adding Deadly Dragons to my load order. But I'm a bit worried about it breaking my game.

The load order (that I have been using till now) didn't have that many issues during my playthrough.

I had some CTDs at some moments, but not that much compared to my previous playthroughs. I don't want to jinx it, but at the moment I'm doing okay overall, when it comes to CTDs.

I do have an old and very low end PC though.

My current specs:

  • nVidia GeForce 9600 GT 512MB
  • Win7 32bit
  • AMD Phenom II x4 945 Processor (4 CPU's), ~3.0 GHz
  • 4 GB RAM (only 3 GB used because of 32bit OS though)
  • 450 Watt PSU
  • 500 GB Hard Drive

I know these specs are not optimized for playing Skyrim at Ultra HD, but I don't have the money to get a new PC or upgrade at this moment of time. (I'm planning to upgrade later this year though.)

To compensate this, I play on the lowest Graphical Settings and I use the Ordenador (a Texture Optimizer Tool) to reduce the size of the Textures of all the mods I'm using.

As I said earlier, I'm not having any really major issues at the moment, but I'm worried I will when I install Deadly Dragons in my already large load order. In particular because I use Mighty Dragons and Dragon Combat Overhaul which already alter dragons.

Some additional information:

I use Mod Organizer, Ordenador, BOSS, TES5Edit, the Creation Kit and Wrye Bash to install and manage all my mods.

My save files are around 11 MB each at the moment and I have been playing around 150 hrs in this playthrough.

I never use Quicksaves or Autosaves. And each time I save I don't override an older file, I always create a new save file.

When I add Deadly Dragons, I'm planning on doing the following:

  • Reducing the size of the Textures with Ordenador
  • Replacing "Super Mighty Dragons DG.esp" with "Super Mighty Dragons DD.esp"
  • Rebuilding my Dragon compatibility patches, Merged Patch and Bashed Patch
  • Resetting the outdoor cells by waiting long enough in Breezehome (31 days I think it was?)

So my questions:

When I add Deadly Dragons, will it potentially break my game? (CTDs, etc) Even when I use the procedure I listed above?

Is there anything else I should know to make the installation smoothly and prevent as much problems as possible?

Any other general advice is always welcome as well. I'm willing to learn and improve.

Thanks in advance

Kind regards

Andre

It should be ok, if you compress the texture size from DD (I vaguly recall we may have covered this a long time ago). I don't use 'Mighty Dragons', but I think you'll need a compatibility patch for that and DD (or make one yourself in TES5Edit).

Sorry, I forgot to mention this, but I wasn't talking only about DeadlyDragons.esp, but also about DeadlyMonsters.esp and DeadlyDragonsArmory.esp.

With those 3 added to my load order, will I still be okay? Or is it a bad idea to add those ones?

Kind regards

Andre

Edit: While making a Merged Patch for Deadly Dragons and Mighty Dragons, I stumbled upon this:

I'm unsure what that red part from Deadly Dragons means. Is it safe just dragging it into the Merged Patch?

I was under the impression that ERSO had a patch for it's 'Mighty Dragon' plugin and DD. Check to make sure. I can't say much about 'Deadly Monsters' or 'Deadly Dragon Armory', because I've never used them. If you are making your own compatibility patch, you would need to drag the scrip data from DD over to your patch.

Yes, ERSO has a patch for Deadly Dragons. I'm using Super Mighty Dragons DD.esp.

I've been playing with Mighty Dragons, Deadly Dragons and Dragon Combat Overhaul for a few days now.

But I haven't met any random dragons anymore. (I have fought dragons at Word Walls though, but no "random" dragon encounters)

I was wondering: Do I have to use the Assault system from Deadly Dragons? The description from DD says it's optional to use Assault. But I don't see "normal" random dragon spawns anymore.

Does the assault system affect the dragons from DD only, or also the dragons from DLCs (Legendary, etc) and Mighty Dragons?

Thanks in advance

Andre

The assault system from DD is handled separately from the default game random dragon spawner, so you don't need to enable the assault system just to have random dragon spawns. I totally forgot the editor ID of the setting that controls the rate of random dragon spawns, but ERSO has optional plugins that modify this setting so you can adjust number of days in between dragon spawns. You can also just check which setting ERSO has modified in that optional plugin and adjust the number of days yourself. Edited by ripple

I'm using ERSO 06 - Wait More Time Dragon Encounter x3.esp, but it's currently merged into my Bashed Patch.

It looks like it will take 9 ingame days to spawn a dragon. I'm going to try and wait 9 days and see if anything happens.

I'm not sure what the Flag "Constant HiddenFromLocalmap BorderRegion HasTreeLOD" means, though.

Edit: I waited 9 days and the random dragons are spawning again, but apparently only Mighty Dragons are showing up.

No Deadly Dragons have spawned so far. I'm going to wait 31 days, let the cells reset and try again.

Edit 2: I did some testing today and now Deadly Dragons and Mighty Dragons are both spawning. Yay! :)

A) I have also been looking for a way to make the weapons and armor (added by Deadly Dragons Armory and some other mods) disenchantable, so I can use their enchants on my own-made weapons/armor.

I don't think this can be done with TES5Edit.

Or is there a way to do this?

B) On a side note: I found out about this mod: http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/27866/?

It looks like an awesome addition to make my playthrough even more challenging, but I assume it uses increased spawns like Monster Mod, ASIS, etc.

So with my current setup, it's a no-no, I guess?

I'm thinking of adding following mods to my load order:

Of course, I'll use Texture Optimizer to reduce the size of Diamond Weapon and Armor Smithing textures.

Is this still safe to do? Or should I try to avoid adding any additional esps to my load order, because of my system limitations?

I am not familiar with any of those mods, but they don't look like they will have any impact on your game stability, assuming the armor and weapon mod plugins are clean and just add the custom items with some crafting/tempering recipes.

Today, I made some changes to the weight, armor rating (AR) and damage of Armors and Weapons (added by mods) to make them more useful.

  • zMy Immersive Weapons and Armor Edits.esp -> added
    • Armor:
      • Light: Weight-1 (if Weight=1 -> 0.5), AR+1
      • Heavy: AR+2
      • Note: DK Armor is added as well!
    • Weapons: Dmg+1
    • Arrows: Dmg+1
  • zMy Diamond Smithing Armor Rating and Melee Damage Edits.esp -> added
    • Crossbows: Dmg+1, Crit Dmg+1
    • Bolts & Arrows: Dmg+1
    • Weapons: Dmg+2, Crit Dmg+2
    • Armor:
      • Light: Weight-1 (If Weight=1 ->0 .5), AR+1
      • Medium: Weight-0.5, AR+1.5
      • Heavy:AR+2
  • zMy ERSO 18 LAWE Hardcore Edits.esp -> added
    • All Ebony and Daedric Weapons: damage changed back to Vanilla values

So, I made 3 esp's in which I only changed the Armor Rating, Weight and Damage of all Weapons and Armors added by Immersive Armors/Weapons, DK Armor and Diamond Smithing. Will these 3 esp files (that I've made) affect the stability of my game?
