Silbergrimm
Hello,I'm very sorry to bother you guys but I'm at my wits end. Sadly after I return to Balgruuf after saving the Western Guardtower, the quest Dragon Rising completes but The Way of the Voice doesn't start.I couldn't fix the issue by console commands (setstage doesn't work, complete quest doesn't allow me access to High Hrothgar) or by stopping the quest-, follower- or animation-mods. Has this happened to anyone else? Or has anyone an idea, what might have happened?I'm not a modder or skilled in editing or programming files, so my unaided attempts are very restircted and at this point exhausted. Thank you in advance for your aid
Shabdez
Are you walking from the Tower to Whiterun and hear the Greaybeards' summon when you approach the city? Do you use "Not so fast - Main Quest"?
Silbergrimm
I don't use the "Not so Fast"-Mods, and I do hear the summons... after checking all of my characters I also noticed that I can't seem to purchase Breezehome...
anjenthedog
Patience Grasshopper. wait for the summons (way of the voice) and breezehome... getting the opportunity to purchase is afaik based on doing stuff for the jarl and Whiterun citizens and earning the necessary acknowledgment. It doesn't always happen in some linear, fixed pattern.

Silbergrimm
This morning I retried with a new character.I walked to Whiterun from the guard tower, heard the summons, avoided the Alik'r since they somehow cause problems sometimes and gave my report to Balgruuf. Sadly, except for Lydia appearing, nothing else did. No Breezehome, no Way of the Voice. Trying to skip the Way of the Voice showed me even with console commands the follow up quest for Windcaller's Horn doesn't start or is editable by console command. I think I f*#@ed something up real good... starting to contemplate a reinstallation of everything
Helmsmasher
Question, is your game a steam copy?
wfandrews
You get the right to purchase Breezehome after completing Bleak Falls Barrow when you follow Farengar and the steward up the stairs and Balgruuf questions the guard, tells him to go to the barracks for some food and rest, tells the steward to get some guards and head to the watch tower and tells you he needs your help. At that time he gives you a piece of equipment and gives you the right to purchase property in Whiterun for retrieving the Dragonstone for Farengar. If the Alik'r sometimes cause trouble in your game you probably have a mod conflict which may be affecting Dragon Rising.

I purchased the game on steam a few years ago and implemented the skse-launcher into steam, if that's what you mean. The Alik'r never caused me any trouble 'til now, but I read they could cause trouble, so I avoided them as a precaution
wfandrews
All I can say is that I pick up that quest from the Alik'r whenever I come into Whiterun after killing the dragon and have never had a problem associated with that quest that I know of. That does not mean that no one has had that quest cause problems later on in their game, just that I have not and have never heard of anyone who has. I would be very leery of a report that one of the vanilla quests caused a problem later on in ones game. That is not to say it could not happen, just that it would be a rare occurrence and not something to worry about. By "vanilla" I mean one that is inherent in the game put in by the developers and not one added by a mod. While a lot of vanilla quests can get bugged, this is Bethesda after all, I have never heard of one causing a bug in the game. I do not launch the game thru Steam and have not for years so I really cannot comment on that. I will say that I have been playing Legendary since 2011 and SSE since it came out and in that time I have formed the opinion that when one has trouble with this game Steam is just as liable to be part of the problem as they are to be part of the solution. I turn off the overlay and cloud and anything Steam related; launch my game thru skse loader exe desktop shortcut and always play offline. Keep in mind that this is a personal preference and I am sure that many people play the game thru Steam with no problem. Having said that I would start a vanilla game, go thru the intro with no mods but USEEP, save after exiting Helgen escape cave, and start adding mods to that save. I would also launch the game with skse64_loader.exe and not through Steam.
